"Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story" It's What You Expect

Image
Look, if you've watched Bridgerton before, you'll know what to expect when watching this show, it's pretty much just another season of Bridgerton  and that's fine. The violin versions of modern pop songs are still hilariously present, if not cute, the romance and the gossip are always present, and this time the Bridgerton series has decided to tackle the issue of racism and mental health, specifically mental illnesses.     How effective is Bridgerton  as a commentary on racism, is certainly a point of debate, and frankly none of it would be happening if it were not for the fact that they decided to race swap characters. Now look, I'm not even here to comment on the fact that actors are race-swapped, it's a TV-show and I could hardly care, especially because I think the actors usually have pretty good romance, but it's genuinely hilarious watching them tip toe around racism with terms such as "The Great Experiment" as they learn to integrate ric

"Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary" Aged Like Milk

Look, if you're a fan of the Halo series, and you've played the original game, I'm sure this is going to be a blast for you. All that nostalgia crashing into you like a tidal wave while you watch your childhood in even higher fidelity than you could have envisioned back then. Sadly, that is not me, and after playing through all 10 campaign missions, I just have to say, I'm glad the standard FPS campaign I hold every game up to is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II , because this game misses many of the features that just seem downright intuitive.     Look, I'm not going to complain about the lack of sprinting or even aiming, many games don't have that. You can't aim in Half-Life 2 , nor can you sprint and that does not diminish its value, but it doesn't need that when its story is much, much stronger. All I can say is that I'm almost certain much of the hype had to have come from playing it multiplayer with friends, because this game's campaig

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" They Really Did It

Image
When entering this movie, be prepared for something, a little more different compared to the original film. Gone are the snappy scenes almost filled to the brim with content, with the plot one would find in a typical superhero movie, and in is the opposite. This movie clocks in at 2 hours 20 minutes, and during that time frame it takes them about 20 minutes to even get to the splash screen for the movie.  Across the Spider-Verse takes its time for it's idea to blossom, not like it's fighting for that next sequel like its predecessor was, but like a movie that knows it has time in the next film.     I suppose that's what makes this film wonderful in it's own way compared to the first film. It's a labour of love, but it doesn't feel like it's hindered by the fact that they need to make it a crowd pleaser, the people will learn to please themselves. I mean from the themes of the multiverse, which on a side tangent, feels like every movie is doing these days

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" No Super Hero Equal?

Image
I'm going to be honest, as a person who can be a bit too much of a contrarian at times, I was completely skeptical of this movie. Some of it was valid, calling it the greatest superhero movie, or even animated film of all time is quite a tall task, one that should not be taken lightly, but I'm going to be honest, this movie might actually be peak. It's just one of those movies that's so clearly a labor of love. I know people like to joke about how often people cite the framerate differences to show skill in this movie, but it's small aspects like that which just make you appreciate the work put into it.     Where do I even start? I think what makes this movie so great is that it understands its a superhero movie. No need for super grey villains that make audiences sympathize with them, nor does there need to be a super long character origin story. I mean it literally rehashes it multiple times as a sort of running gag, which is good, because if it had to play

"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game" Disappointment All Around

Image
Look, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World  is one of my favourite movies of all time, I've even read the comics they're based off of, and I absolutely adore it. personally, I'm super excited for the animated series that's to come, but when it comes to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, my official recommendation is to stay away. I mean I don't know what I expected from a Ubisoft game really, it's just, I expected more from a game carrying the Scott Pilgrim moniker.     Let me start off on the gameplay, cause it's just because it is absolutely frustrating, and the only reason I even bothered to spend about 20 minutes on this game was because I enabled cheats. You have a block button, but it is legitimately so useless. You pretty much have to predict the next move of the enemies to even have a chance, otherwise you're just standing there awkwardly watching them combo you without any remedy. When you're a higher level this doesn't matter as much, I

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" A Touching Tribute

Image
Look, if you didn't like Power Rangers  as a kid, I doubt this movie will appeal to you, it's only an hour long, and it has all the cornball elements that endeared me to the show when I was a child. Look, to make a long story short, think of it as an updated episode of the OG Power Rangers  show, because it's dripping in nostalgia from the very first series, just with an updated look that's acceptable for 2023.      I mean, I'm such a big Power Rangers fan it's hard not to say I loved it. I mean look, I love Billy Yost and Walter Emmanuel Jones, but sometimes the delivery of their lines were so off that it made you question how many times they took it, or even if they understood what words like clutch or legit even meant. Despite that, I'll admit, it's a fun watch. From seeing old rangers back again, to seeing old set pieces given new life, I think Yost and Jones did a great job of doing this tribute the justice it deserved, it was fun.     I mean,

"Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc" It's Getting Old

Image
I enjoy Demon Slayer alright, I've watched every single episode of the anime that's been released to date. I read the manga and thought it was pretty alright, but I have to admit, in terms of an anime that released weekly, I can't say I would recommend Demon Slayer , and can you blame me? I think the biggest issue with  Demon Slayer  is that it has become too formulaic, and when you're not binging the series, it becomes really annoying to just get bits and pieces slowly but surely, and part of the reason is that the entire season is just these bits and pieces.     Look, say what you want about the Demon Slayer movies, frankly I don't really care about what format my anime is in, as long as I have the full picture. It's just, it's becoming boring, you'll tune in, they'll do a smidgen of fighting, then it flashbacks to some backstory about a character in the arc, then a bit more fighting, and onto the next episode. It's cool and all, but some

"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" Literally Peak

Image
This will not be your typical movie review from me, for one reason, and one reason only, I absolutely adore this movie. Unironically I think this is one of my favourite movies of all time, it's just so fun and if I catch it on the background I have to watch it for a couple of minutes to feel its embrace. I mean look, I understand you can dislike this movie based off this whole Ramona Flowers manic pixie dream girl discourse it's invented, but like the movie is just so fun regardless.     I mean, as a kid, I remember thinking wow this movie is so cool, pop culture and video game references, this is the type of movie I enjoy, I want to be like Scott, not realizing that's not the point. I mean I was watching this movie and I was genuinely kind of disgusted by Scott. Is him dating a high schooler just downplayed? I mean they call him creepy at the beginning but everyone just accepts it, including him. I mean he's also an asshole, which I registered that they said he w

"Abbott Elementary Season 2" I'm Not Feeling the Romance

Image
Look, Abbott Elementary  has done something very few sitcoms have done, and that is make themselves worth watching to me. I don't know why but oftentimes I just end up cringing at a lot of sitcoms, I mean other than Community  I don't really think any Sitcom has truly blown me away, so I don't know if that says more about me, than it does sitcoms. Abbott Elementary  has been the exception for me though, and I think that's because it feels as if it's written by a real human being who's not horribly out of touch. I'll admit, I'm a bit biased because I'm a bit intrigued by the idea of Quinta Brunson being a real actor/producer, since I remember her from her Buzzfeed days.     Let me start of by saying, there's nothing wrong with a romance, especially one that's been slowly building up over time like the show has between Gregory and Janine, the only issue I have is that, all the scenes involving those two are so cringy. Like why did they me

"Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition" I Wish I Had the Normal Version

Image
Look, all I have to say is, that as someone who practically did absolutely everything you could in Sleeping Dogs , it really was not worth it. I mean at first glance, it seems like it'd be a fun game, GTA but in Hong Kong, and with a better story? Sign me up. Or that is what I would say, if the version you get on Steam wasn't the definitive edition.      Like, it's almost laughable how much the DLC ruined it for me, I was planning on writing a review about Sleeping Dogs that was going to be surprisingly positive, but after suffering what seemed to be another bout of DLC that is just reused assets (I'm looking at you Dishonored ) I can safely say I ended Sleeping Dogs  very much tired of the game, and hoping that I would not have to touch it for a while.      It's a shame really, because while I was playing the game, I was caught in the moment, I wanted revenge for what they had done to Winston, but what it made me realize is that, the story really held this ga

"Andor" I Was Wrong

Image
If anything deserved that one photo of Martin Scorese saying cinema, it's this. I can say with confidence that this is by far the best piece of Star Wars  content that has been released in ages. Like I guess there's the Fallen Order  series, but otherwise I don't even think season 1 of the Mandalorian  can compare to what I just watched. When I first heard they were making an Andor  tv show, I wasn't sold, by that point I could feel the marvelfication of Star Wars as they began to just pump out show after show, and I felt like this would simply follow the trend.       Luckily, I was wrong. In fact, it almost feels like its the antithesis to everything Star Wars , it knows what it wants to be, it executes it, and it makes sure that there aren't any frills to cheapen the message or weaken it at any point. I was legitimately captivated at every turn this TV show made, and honestly, it kind of redeemed my faith that a Disney+ produced show didn't have to be aw

"Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords" Why Did They Have to Make This?

Image
Why, just why. I'm going to be honest with you, this game is a struggle to play. It's simply too old, and too unfinished to released in the state its in. Which is even more ironic when one considers the fact that they tried rereleasing this game in the year 2023 for some god-forsaken reason, then back tracked on promises to improve on the original game, and in compensation provided the uncompleted game that they tried to release almost 20 years later without improvements.     Seriously, what is going on with this series. From a remake being in development hell, to this game being released on Nintendo Switch, it all just baffles me. The same issues that plagued the first game remain here, the combat system is archaic to say the least, the game is just a complete eyesore, it becomes ridiculously easy and what's worse, the story is not better.      I mean one could say, "they added new features, only improving on the already proven formula in the first game" but

"Holes" It Ends Like That?

Image
I'd say I remember watching Holes as a kid, but oddly enough I didn't. I mean I did remember the premise of the movie somehow, perhaps I saw the whole plotpoint about shoes falling from the sky in a Youtube video, regardless it doesn't matter. Oddly enough, this movie is a lot better than I expected. Look, at first, you'd be right to be skeptical of it, this movie doesn't take itself too seriously, and frankly you start to be scared that it's just another corny 2000's movie.     Luckily, it's not. I don't think I have much to say about this movie, because despite having a runtime of around 2 hours, this movie actually feels significantly shorter. Part of it is that it takes a bit of time for everything to pick up the speed, part of it is that the ending feels very rushed, and I guess the last part of it is, nothing much actually happens in the movie. If you had to plot out major events, it would be a fairly straight line and while I have penalize
