"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" No Super Hero Equal?

I'm going to be honest, as a person who can be a bit too much of a contrarian at times, I was completely skeptical of this movie. Some of it was valid, calling it the greatest superhero movie, or even animated film of all time is quite a tall task, one that should not be taken lightly, but I'm going to be honest, this movie might actually be peak. It's just one of those movies that's so clearly a labor of love. I know people like to joke about how often people cite the framerate differences to show skill in this movie, but it's small aspects like that which just make you appreciate the work put into it.

Where do I even start? I think what makes this movie so great is that it understands its a superhero movie. No need for super grey villains that make audiences sympathize with them, nor does there need to be a super long character origin story. I mean it literally rehashes it multiple times as a sort of running gag, which is good, because if it had to play it out again, especially after all the Spiderman movies everyone has had to watch the past two decades, it might have absolutely ruined any prospect of this movie having sequels.

Speaking of which, there is never a dull moment in this movie, whether it be the movie, or the quick and snappy introductions, there isn't some random scene where Miles just talks to his roommate about how cool Spiderman is. It knows it has just under two hours, and it knows it's time to make sure everyone leaves fulfilled and satisfied. I mean from the soundtrack to lines, there's nothing poorly written here, it really does feel like a personal passion project, and in today's movie climate, that's becoming more and more rare as movie studios look toward established franchises as they stay scared of making new movies.

Don't even get me started on the animation. If there was a visual equivalent of a flavour bomb, that's what I would describe this movie as. It's so colourful, it's not worried about realism, it's not worried about everything moving too much, it's fast paced, it's flaccid and everything is exaggerated just to the right amount. This is one of the very rare times I legitimately can't complain about anything in a movie. I feel like nothing is terrible here, it's all superb, and I am extremely excited to see the movie tonight.

Final Score: 96/100

Literally peak cinema. From the mentor mentee relationship between Peter and Miles, to the romance between Spider-Gwen and Miles that for once isn't cringy, to the fact that you accept all of the other spider-people so quickly, despite their different art styles. Even if it is a Marvel property, this movie does not feel distinctly Marvel, there are no cringy quips, nor are there awkward fan service moments, it knows when to insert humour and when to be serious, and I love this movie for that.
