"Don't Sleep - Sleepy Hallows" It Doesn't Outstay it's Welcome (kind of)

Image
I literally know nothing about drill music, nor do I particularly enjoy it so I must admit that I will just simply fluff up this preface with literally any interaction I've ever had with it. While I did enjoy Off the Grid  from everyone's favourite reformed Nazi Kanye West, I feel like it's just because the song went hard and not specifically because of the drill beat. I mean I don't hate drill music, a lot of my friends, particularly my cousin are in love with drill music, even if I don't really vibe with it too much. Does Ice Spice count as a drill rapper? Not saying that I actually enjoy her music that much it's mostly just for fun. Looks like I ran out of literally anything to say about drill music my friend Shoota made me listen to this album so here's the track-by-track review. Don't Sleep - Sleepy Hallows Movie (Intro) - 41/100 The guitar is something? Otherwise this song is pretty soft and unambitious as far as intro songs go. I must commend

"Atlanta Season 3" I'm Fine With What the Show has Become

Image
Throughout my entire binge of Atlanta  by Donald Glover, my one consistent complain is that I wish they focused on the main four characters of Alfred, Earn, Darius and Van more. I suppose that's just my brain wishing, for a bit more of a cohesive story, a bit more of a traditional format that doesn't try and venture outwards, and it's time to stop expecting it. Y'know, I actually enjoyed this season quite a lot, I thought the one-shot episodes were still well done, even if I felt like some of the Europe episodes with the main cast felt forced.     I mean, look, while I do love Van running around beating people up with a stale baguette, it almost makes you question why they left it until the very end. Like it makes more sense that she was having an episode and that's why Lottie was rarely brought up, but I feel like they had a real opportunity to address how Earn is sort of like an absentee father at times, and it's taking its toll on Vanessa. Though, a focu

"Laddie A True Blue Story" An Interesting Product of Its Time

Normally, I wouldn't read a book from 1913, and frankly after finishing this book, I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a book that really blew me away. Now, I don't know how much of this is fabricated, and how much of it is truly based off of Gene Stratton-Porter's life, but what I do know is that there is quite literally over a century of time that separates her childhood from mine. If you want a basic summary of this book, it's pretty much a slice of live novel told from the perspective of an 8-year old girl.     I mean, it's not awful, but what this book is is awfully long, like really, really long. Like 600 pages of this slice of life story kind of long. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't discriminate books based off of length, I absolutely adore the Song of Ice and Fire  series by George R.R. Martin, because of it's sheer complexity and length, but this book is very much not a fantasy novel. And frankly, I'm not sure how many random mus

"Secret Invasion" How Did This Pass?

Can someone genuinely explain to me what was the purpose of this film? I feel like the entire set up could have easily been an hour spinoff that would have had more emotional gravity than whatever this six episode mini-series is. I mean it's not offensive, it's just unoffensive, and that's been the issue with Marvel recently. Like, I can't legitimately remember any moment from this TV show, or any meaningful way it changed any of the characters included.     Like, the premise is quite literally that Skrulls are living among humans, but then you learn that they pretty much just act like how the humans do, and the only one really doing anything is the Rhodey Skrull, who just ends up putting a giant target on the back of the Skrulls. What is the point of them being shapeshifters? You learn nothing about their struggle, just big shows of power that ultimately amount to nothing, it's genuinely pathetic. How can you set up this big bad villain, only to have them do

"Barbie" Can You Feel That Kenergy?

Image
Ken brought me to my knees, and in a good way. Honestly, considering the hype surrounding the Barbie  movie I was incredibly skeptical that it would be able to live up to it's hype, but after watching it I have to admit, it's actually really good and seems like something that'd have great re-watchability. Look I'm definitely feeding into the hype, but this movie managed to make a compelling story about dolls that had a little bit of everything, a little bit of comedy that made you laugh, a vibrant set, memorable characters, and some base commentary on some very real social issues.     I mean I have to start with the acting. While it is funny that everyone seems to hate Simu Liu, I must admit, Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie as Ken and Barbie respectively was perfect. I remember seeing the casting and thinking, wow they're going kind of old for both of them, and frankly I was afraid of Ryan Gosling being too old to pull off Ken, but after seeing them, I can'

"Atlanta Season 2" Just Enough Hope to Get By

Image
Man, Atlanta season 2 is a big depressing mess that I was surprisingly invested in. I mean let me give you a rundown on the topics of some of the episodes. An odd episode about Van and Earn being in a German place where they face not only racism, but the big elephant in the room that is their relationship. Then there's the big looming of question about what in the world is Al going to do about Earn being his manager. He clearly is afraid of the mistakes he's doing, and appreciates loyalty, but when it hardly leads to the success he wants, it makes you start to question how long the status quo is remaining.     I mean, I'm going to be honest, my issues with the first season are not resolved, it is still mostly just a show that is barely head together by the synopsis of "Earn is just another black man who is trying to get by while he manages his cousins rap career". I don't know, there's nothing wrong with having what basically equates to a couple of v

"Dying Light: Definitive Edition" Are They Even Trying?

My review for this game is going to be very unlike the reviews I typically have for video games, and that is for two reasons specifically, I played the story mode with my friends, and I didn't try and complete everything.  Why you might ask? Well while the game is fun, it really lacks any substance. Don't get me wrong, it had potential, it's just other than the parkour system, which is incredibly fun and by far the brightest star in this game, everything else either feels rushed, mediocre, or just plain both.     Take for example the story. Now, while there's nothing wrong with a simple story, what is wrong is paying all this money for a short and simple story that isn't even satisfying. From the super basic plot, to the fact that it practically just introduced characters, makes you talk to them once, and now you're best friends, this is by far the biggest reason why I'm giving this game such a hard time. Not to mention, the shoddy voice acting at ti

"Atlanta Season 1" What Do You Want To Be?

Image
Atlanta  by Donald Glover is a good show, let me get that out of the way, but frankly after watching season 1, I'm more conflicted on it than ever, and that is for one reason, and one reason only. I don't know what this show is about. Like, I enjoy it, but I originally was hooked because of Glover and his other work. As someone who has only watched the first season of this show, I really can't find a way to describe it other than a passion project of Glover's. And while that's ok, that's fine, as long as the show is good, which it is, I have no idea how to pitch it to anyone because frankly, I'm unsure if even the show knows what it wants to do with its characters.     Whether it episode 1 season 7, where the only regular who shows up is Paper Boi who is in some odd parody leaving viewers with more questions than answers, to the episode that is almost entirely just Vanessa, the lover of Earnest, hanging out with her friend and struggling with her life

"Mechanical Animals - Marilyn Manson" The Album Cover is the Worst Aspect of the Album

Image
I'm going to be honest with you I don't really have any high expectations for a Marilyn Manson album. Literally, my only exposure to him? them? are the rape allegations that are from what I hear probably true since I know Manson as a piece of shit foremost and an artist second. But, generally my friend CJ does tend to have at least a modicum of good music taste, so when he did recommend Manson I did feel at the very least intrigued enough to give them a shot, though the album cover is not exactly what I would call confidence inspiring. Therefore, without further ado, here are my track-by-track reviews of Mechnical Animals by Marilyn Manson. Mechanical Animals - Marilyn Manson Great Big White World - 80/100 I'm going to be honest I also thought this song was some weird racist statement and after reading the genius page for this album I'm glad I'm not the only one. Otherwise this song is surprisingly good? I just kind of assumed this album would be terrible I ca

"You Season 4" Wait I'm Kind of Digging It

Image
Look, I have conflicted opinions about this show, the first season was great, the second season was decent, the third season was absolutely awful, but this most recent season? This most recent season? Look, I think I might have to go watch  Succession, because I'm just starting to think I enjoy watching rich people suffer. I wouldn't say this season reinvents the wheel, but at the very least it recognized that its time to inject the series with some life.     Why might that be you ask? Well because for once Joe is against the wall. It's legitimately refreshing when he doesn't have to narrate any scene, or he has to be a mastermind, because frankly watching him run around and chase hints and clues like a mouse was actually fun. I mean of course most of it was ruined by the twist, but especially for the first season, while it was still around, I actually enjoyed being around and watching Joe Goldberg and company go romp around. I suppose when you forget someone'

"Hamilton - 2023 Toronto Tour" The Magic is Still There

Image
Look, Hamilton is kind of peak musical to me so forgive me if this entire article just sounds like me gushing over it. It's just that this really is what made me fall in love with musicals in the first place, and can you blame me? Look, I was in grade 9 and just exploring my unrealized passion for theater, and this musical was the perfect starting point. It didn't sound too theatrical, and it was about a historical character I legitimately knew nothing about. Not to mention, unlike other musicals, the story is entirely within the songs, so it was easy to listen along and visualize it all, sort of like a deluxe audiobook.     And well, this run of Hamilton  has been pretty much everything I could have wanted or expected when I was originally supposed to see a live version of this show. From the lighting, to the songs, to the energy, I can say with confidence that 14 year old me would have been absolutely ecstatic to have known he would have been able to see a rendition of

"Harley Quinn Season 2" I'm in Shambles

Image
Call it subversion, call it true love, call it the right play all along, I call it betrayal. I am truly, greatly disgusted at the writers of Harley Quinn season 2. Not because they made Harley and Ivy lesbians, I actually thought that was the original direction they were going because in season 1 it was so obvious Ivy was helping Harley for more than just "friend" reasons, but because they hurt Kite Man. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU DO ALL THIS BUILD UP FOR ONE OF THE MOST WHOLESOME SUPERVILLAIN COUPLES JUST TO TEAR IT ALL AWAY FOR WHAT WAS THE MOST OBVIOUS PLOY THE ENTIRE TIME .     Look, I predicted the whole lesbian thing, I really did, but by the time we reached the end of season 2, especially the wedding between Harley and Ivy, I was fully invested in Poison Ivy and Kite Man having happiness together, and frankly I still am annoyed with Harley Quinn I still don't care about her and I'd much rather have a Poison Ivy show. I know I'm going to be ranting about

"Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor" I Can See It Now

Image
Have you always felt that many fantasy games/series were too unserious? Too whimsical and magical, not gritty and dark enough? Then Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor  is the game for you. If you are a big fan of the Lord of the Rings  series at all I implore you to give this game a shot, and then play its sequel which I have yet to touch, but have high hopes for. This game truly is a marvel, and while yes, I do still think the incredibly hyped Nemesis system is a bit overrated, it eventually does click with you.     Let me explain the tale of Gorful Ghul Slayer, my greatest nemesis who came back to life in the final steps of the games final battle, where we could once again clash blades as the comrades we were. Keep in mind all of this lore is in my end, but that's the beauty of the nemesis system, you sometimes end up seeing the same captains over and over again, leading you to feel like you've created some bond with them. Gorful came from a side captain who just happened t

"Harley Quinn Season 1" So it Worked?

Image
Am I confused at all of this Harley Quinn hype that has seemingly spawned from the "success" of Suicide Squad ? Yes. Was I very, very skeptical of the Harley Quinn  show when I first heard it announced? Of course. Do I now want more of it, but mostly just Poison Ivy and not really Harley I still don't like her character? Most definitely. There's no other way to put this but by the time of me writing this review I'm already nearly halfway through the second season of Harley Quinn, mostly because I decided that I'd rather binge this show than write this darn review.     Even still, I must admit, this show is fantastic. I mean I was so skeptical of it, I genuinely do feel like eventually we have to pump the breaks on it, because frankly every time I watch a show about her I always receive mixed messaging on what they want her to be. Don't get me wrong, this show is no different I still think it's a major issue with her character. I thought it was ste
