"Pitch Perfect 2" Not Everything Needs a Review

Image
Some things should simply stay unreviewed, and frankly it's a bit embarrassing I watched all of this film. It is half an hour longer than the original and it does absolutely nothing with that. The inclusion of any male characters from the treblemakers is once again forced and just kind of random, especially Benji's attraction to Hailee Steinfeld's character, who is still a teenager and no one acknowledges how creepy it is. That dude Adam Devine plays is there and his relationship with Fat Amy is really boring. Even as they make you wade through extra shit the songs overall felt much weaker and Das Sound Machine were fine, but they lacked much personality other than having a hilariously weird German accent. Final Score: 20/100

"Alvvays - Blue Rev" Thorough Bliss

Image
I remember when I had first discovered Alvvays last year, it was around the same time The Loneliest Time  by Canadian queen Carly Rae Jepsen had dropped, and I had heard rumblings of this other Canadian group that had managed to steal the hearts of all the critics. I mean it was insane, they had topped practically every chart I had ever seen, and so, I downloaded their entire discography and ventured out to see what the buzz was all about. It was slow at first, I remember listening to their first album, it was fine, the same could be said with the second album. I mean it was just indie music to me, and while I enjoyed saying that listened to Canadian artists thanks to my irrational sense of nationalism, I didn't really get it. I loved the hits, Next of Kin  and Archie, Marry Me  were great. Y'know whatblew me away though? Blue Rev . Looking through my last.fm data, I can safely say that Alvvays will almost certainly sweep my Spotify Wrapped, with multiple entries from Alv

Sex Education Season 4 "Sticking the Landing"

I'm gonna be honest, I'm actually pretty impressed with this show, especially considering everything that was going against it. I'm going to assume that the reason Maeve's character was hardly present was due to filming constraints with Barbie , which is understandable because the movie is great. Moreover, some integral characters left, and they managed to replace them with, adequate stand in's, though it's a shame we never see what happened with Ola, Jakob or Lily. Despite that, it tries to give closure to everyone's favourite character, never feels too boring or stretched out, and paired with a great soundtrack, manages to be a pretty good crowd pleaser.      To preface this paragraph, I'll admit that I was a Ruby and Otis shipper, and in my opinion they were endgame, and my one true pairing for this show, so you'd understand my disappointment when he came back crawling to Maeve like the slug he was. Ruby deserved better, so I'm glad they

"Pitch Perfect" Better Than You'd Expect

Image
When my sister suggested watching Pitch Perfect  I kind of instinctively gagged. I mean can you blame me? Look, I love musicals, and I'm a theater person, but I've always been very against  Glee, and Glee adjacent media. I think the reason for it is I absolutely hate covers. It's not that they're that bad, but at the same time there aren't many I can say I really enjoy. With all that out of the way though, Pitch Perfect  was actually better than I thought. I almost enjoyed some of the songs, and while I can't say it was really a movie I liked that much, it's better than you think.     First, I must discuss how dated this movie is, and I don't mean that they use old Macbooks or iPhones or anything like that, I mean some of the jokes. Like this is a genuine question, why the hell does Fat Amy have this weird obsession with Jewish people. I mean look, DJ standing for "Deaf Jews" is a weird joke, and I'll excuse it, pretending to just wal

"Saints Row 2" This Game Stinks Man

Image
Look, I've played some buggy games before. I've suffered through Fallout: New Vegas  and it's consistent crashing every 30 minutes, but at the very least the game had a world that I could explore for the rest of my life. I've played Pokemon Scarlet and Violet  but at least I had nostalgia to justify playing the ugliest most unoptimized game I've ever seen. I've even played done completionist runs of literal porn games, curious to see how long it'd take to do them and if it would be worth it. But I will not mince words when I say I tried to finish this games story as quickly as possible, and uninstalled it just as quickly.     My experience with the Saints Row series is exclusively playing Saints Row 4  as a child. Was it on the lowest settings? Of course. Do I remember anything about it considering I was 12? Of course not. Was I still excited to finally play the games in this series that brought me joy as one of the first games I bought? Of course. How

"Pinkshift - Love Me Forever" Best New Act?

Image
Let me preface this review by saying I've already actually listened to it before, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I remember discovering Pinkshift because they were touring with Sweet Pill and Origami Angel, one a pop-punk outfit I had remember being posted about back when they had nothing more than an EP out, and the other an emo band I had also recently discovered thanks to a music account I followed. Needless to say, I was looking for new music, and this seemed to check off all the boxes I was looking for. An up and coming band that wasn't just comprised of the same straight white dudes from the suburbs? I knew I had to check them out, and I wasn't disappointed. So when my friend CJ officially recommended this album to myself and others , I was excited to finally give this album a formal track-by-track review, and here it is. Love Me Forever - Pinkshift i'm not crying you're crying - 85/100 I usually like to bash songs off of albums that I review for having ly

"The Witcher Season 3" Why Are We Still Doing This?

Image
I write this review leaving just as confused as I did when I first began to watch this show. Keep in mind, I thought that this show was mildly overhated when it first came out. I mean I thought it was a bit dull, but the fight scenes were really cool, and Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia managed to work out. Looking back, I was too kind on the series. I mean I kid you not when I say this was my go-to show whenever I needed to put a show in the background while I was cooking, cleaning or doing any sort of menial labour in general. It wasn't even my favourite background show either, frankly I was mostly watching it just to say I finished it.     I mean where do I even start? The fact that absolutely nothing happens in this season, or the fact that it is in general just one big mess? Look I understand the complaints about my generation, about how our attention spans have been reduced to the point where we always need stimulation, but this season could have happened in like two, m

"Take That - The Circus" Truly Living Up To It's Name

Image
Jesus. I have no connection at all to this band, but after seeing the reviews and scores some of my friends have put out for it, I have no hope at all that this album will be anything but painless. I mean the score it has on AOTY makes me hopeful that it'll be mediocre, but this group seems so obscure that it lacks genres, a track list, or any tags. Not to mention the album has a generous score of 63 based off of 16 ratings, and I'm supposed to believe that these are the biggest Take That fans out there? Shoutout CJ for singlehandedly bringing the score down with his 8/100 review by the way, I swear the score was higher when I first looked at the albums AOTY page. I mean from what my friend Murph said it's value is largely nostalgic to him, but I hope to also enjoy something out of this? I mean I'm pretty lenient on generic pop so surely it can't be that bad. So without further ado, my track-by-track review of The Circus  by Take That. The Circus - Take That Th

"Elemental" Way Cuter Than It Should Be

Look, get your fire boy and water girl jokes in, get the Pixar just asks if  "x" object has feelings jokes, I've seen it all. I too was once like you, my expectations for this film were at the absolute bottom. I suppose that's what happens when your entire social media presence is consumed by Twitter. I mean when this film first came out I was genuinely surprised, typically, I'll see some sort of social media hype or advertisements trying to showcase this show, but when I first saw advertisements for this movie I had thought it had already released. I was led to believe that it had came and went like the flop I had initially written it off to be, but it wasn't.     I understand why you'd be skeptical, after all, Pixar's once near spotless record has seemingly become spottier and spottier with each passing year, but I wouldn't even consider this film some sort of return to form, I think that it's leaning into what's made the recent Pix

"500 Days of Summer" He Just Like Me a Little Too Much

Image
I'll level with you, my imaginary reader, the first time I watched 500 Days of Summer , I didn't get it. I went on my phone a lot, and my attention was generally not there for the film. Mostly because I felt that it dragged on for quite some time, and I didn't understand it. I pretty much drew all the wrong conclusions from the film. I just thought Summer married some dude on a random whim and was being an asshole to Tom. Looking back, I can see why I couldn't process what I was seeing on the screen. Not only did I sort of force the film, but looking back, I relate to Tom, almost too much, and in a way, I still do? And that sort of scares me.     I mean that's not to say that there's anything wrong with being a hopeless romantic, as shown by the end of the film, there's hope for us all, even poor, poor Tom. It's just that, he felt so relatable, the way even the smallest things about someone can cause him to spiral, in a positive sense. I could easi
