"Super Mario 3D All Stars" If Only Nintendo Cared

Image
If only Nintendo cared, and I do mean this with the most sincere tone possible because gods was this bundle good. I only wish that Nintendo bothered to put anything other than the minimal amount of effort into this. I mean look at what they did with Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver or even Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen.  Its clear that when they really clear, Nintendo can make remakes that are absolute bundles of passion that are unmatched by any other company. Sadly, what fans got was basically three Mario games emulated on the switch, even if they still aged relatively well.     Ok so maybe that was a bit of a lie, because looking back at it, god Super Mario 64 has not aged gracefully at all. I mean in its defense basically all games in this bundle suffer from one major issue, which is that the viewing angles are absolutely atrocious. I mean who the hell decided to make it locked, its so ridiculous and 90% of the time when you can't actually s...

"House of the Dragon" HBO's Redemption Arc?

Image
To be completely honest, I was not sold on House of the Dragon  when it was first announced, and who can blame me? After all HBO and D&D ruined any and all goodwill fans had from Game of Thrones,  and with each passing year fans were losing more and more hope for Winds of Winter  to ever be released. Once strong and proud fanbases were quickly dying, and with no new content to satiate them, it quickly turned ugly with even the once glorious r/freefolk quickly falling into a disarray. I mean, by that point fantasy/sci-fi spinoffs were unproven, The Mandalorian, was the only Star Wars one worth watching, The Rings of Power  had yet to release, and Marvel was quickly wearing its welcome out with each passing formulaic show. In fact, I originally planned to watch the show once the entire season finished, failing to see any world in which I should keep up with a show that had ruined all my hopes and dreams of my favourite fantasy series.   ...

"Midnight (3 AM Edition) - Taylor Swift" She is Trying so Hard

Image
I love Taylor Swift, I really do, and during the fall season there's nothing better than putting on some indie-folk tracks from either Evermore or Folklore  and simply falling in love with tracks in new ways. However, I would be lying if Taylor Swift's fanbase wasn't becoming more and more cumbersome as the years have gone by. I was completely blindsided by how strong and fanatic they were, because in my eyes I just assumed she peaked during her 1979 era, but apparently she's had some resurgence that has absolutely astounded and impressed me at every turn. Midnight (3 AM Edition) Lavender Haze – 85/100 song is slower kind of atmospheric, I’m kind of digging it I enjoy the vibe. Maroon – 60/100 I’m not really feeling this song compared to the first one. Taylors clearly trying to do the quirky colour thing like she did with Red but it’s not working the same. Anti-Hero – 65/100 I’ve heard many things about this track. Taylor is very snarky in this but I’m not feel...

"The Loneliest Time – Carly Rae Jepsen" Aging with Grace

Image
Why did no one tell me Carly Rae Jepsen is almost 37? I can distinctly remember 10 years ago when Call Me Maybe was released, thinking it was annoying because she sang about boys. Looking back, oh how the times have changed, as I become more entrenched in queer culture, I begin to understand the obsession with the undisputed queen of pop that is Carly Rae Jepsen. From hits like  Julien  to Run Away With Me, I would wholeheartedly trust Carly to make a soundtrack to my life. I'll admit, this is the most excited I've been for a release in ages, and frankly I had more faith in this album than Taylor Swift's Midnights which also happened to release recently. The Loneliest Time – Carly Rae Jepsen Surrender My Heart – 90/100 Carly is swearing which is different, but I'm not quite sure how much better this song can get because it's an amazing opener. Its loud, vibrant and I love the chorus. The more I listen to this song the better it gets. Joshua Tree – 80/100 C...

"Food and Liquor - Lupe Fiasco" Nothing Too Special

Image
What in the world is this album cover? I'm sorry, I actually thought this album was decent, and overall I have positive thoughts towards him. I mean, I loved his verse on Touch the Sky and The Show Goes On  is such a fun track, but other than that I had never really explored much with him. So without further ado, at Sweaty's recommendation, it was decided that I should take a peek at what some consider to be Lupe's finest record ever put forth, and his first. Food and Liquor – Lupe Fiasco Intro -  NA/100 It's kind of lengthy for an intro but it's also an intro so I won't care much. Real (feat Sarah Green) - 45/100 It has a guitar riff, but this song isn’t giving me too much energy or anything. The hook isn’t very strong and so I'm a bit disappointed in this track to be honest. Just Might be OK (feat. Gemini) – 70/100 good song, hook is cool and I like the energy Kick, Push – 75/100 I like the Horns and the lyrics of this song I Gotcha – 60/100 This son...

"Moonchild - Niki" A Glimpse of Potential

Image
While I do love my fellow Asian artists, its also important to hold them to the same standards as I do all other artists, after all, why should I be promoting mediocre music by marginalized artists when I could do the same with good music? I'm going to be honest, I only reviewed this album because one of my friends recommended it, and even with Bleed's frankly abhorrent music taste, it only felt right to fulfill his wishes and give this album an honest shot. Moonchild – NIKI Wide Open (Foreword) – 50/100 I listened to the first line and I already have an idea of how this album is going to go. Lyrics give me an idea of what this album is going to be. Mildly edgy and pretentious, pretty basic production wise, we’ll see how this goes. Not really giving much energy or anything likeable though. Switchblade – 65/100 Not sure if I like the clinking sound, but its kind of interesting. After the chorus I’m kind of digging this song? Perhaps there’s hope for...

"One of Us is the Killer - The Dillinger Escape Plan" Not My Cup of Tea

Image
When my friend CJ recommended this album to me, I was unsure what to expect, while we both enjoy punk music he always seemed to be into music that was more hardcore, such as metal or screamo, or even mathcore. So when he recommended this album to me I'll admit I was a little skeptical. I think by that point I had heard of The Dillinger Escape Plan once or twice, but I wasn't quite familiar with their work, so I had no idea what to expect. Despite this, I'm always looking for music that's not quite in my lane, so I set out with opens ears. One of Us is the Killer – The Dillinger Escape Plan Prancer – 80/100 I’m not really sure how to rank these songs because I don’t know how many of them I’d actually listen to or put on a playlist to be honest. Like its good and I really love the energy from this song. However, I’d be lying if my favourite parts weren’t the slower ones like the part that starts with “What was the question?” or the “How could it all be part”. Fra...

"COPINGMECHANISM - Willow" - A Strong Blitz of Pop-Punk

Image
To be completely honest, this album was not on my radar at all, so it turned out as quite the pleasant surprised when it dropped. As someone who's favourite genre is pop-punk, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't watching Willow's career with great interest. After all, the singles released, like the opener <maybe> it's my fault  was absolutely excellent, and showed that she could do more than just the squeaky clean variety of pop-punk introduced by Machine Gun Kelly. So after piquing my interest, and hearing that the album was actually reviewed well, I decided it was time for me to jump in the fray, and give Willow an honest chance. Willow - <COPINGMECHANISM> <maybe> it’s my fault – 90/100 Very strong opener, the lyrics aren’t cringy which is what you’d expect from a Willow/Emo song. I especially like the breakdown at the end and the hook of this song. While not one of my favourite tracks of all time, I find it hard to complain about what this song ...

"Rings of Power" The Seeds are Sowed

Image
Rings of Power is certainly a controversial show that had its work cut out for it from the outlook. I mean my first experience with the show was people complaining that elves and dwarves were black, which is frankly such an annoying complaint I promise it isn't that serious. I mean you're basically saying that all the good guys have to be white because an old white guy in the 60's made all his good guys white. Moreover, the entire review cycle was filled with mad alt-righters review bombing the whole thing, and people on reddit talking about how the show lacked any focus when they watched the premier, so my expectations were not very high for this series.     I mean I started out this series playing games and journaling while watching it, I didn't think it deserved my full attention, and to be honest it didn't. When people were concerned about the series, it was evident in the first couple of episodes, where they desperately try to show four stor...

"Paper Girls" Too Short for it's Own Good?

Image
I'm going to be honest with you, I wasn't sure what to expect going into this series, because while I am a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy fiction, at the same time I mostly chose this series because it seemed well reviewed, and frankly I wanted more female stories. I mean there's nothing wrong with diversity, after all, how could I claim that we should focus on promoting newer more diverse characters, and then not read about them at all. I have to say, perhaps its a good idea to look a little outside of my lane, I mean frankly for a while I've been quite disinterested with comic books, as there are too many to follow, they suffer from many of the same tropes, and the fanbase is insufferable, so Paper Girls  was a nice little breath of fresh air.     I think what stood out to me the most when reading this series was how short it was, it was disappointment because I felt like this series could have been so much more. I mean I booked out this series...

"Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" More Than Just a Spinoff

Image
One by one the perception of video game based media is changing, and for the better. I'm not too sure where it began, and when, but it's safe to say that video game media is not only getting better, but impressing fans, even those who aren't fans of the game. While shows like Halo  on Paramount+ exist, there are absolute standouts like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Arcane absolutely blowing it out of the water. From the music, to the characters, to the visuals, understands what it is, and there's not much Cyberpunk: Edgerunners  does wrong.     I think what's most striking about Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, is the futuristic aesthetic employed throughout, and the way the show is able to master it, without question. From the grimy streets to the ultra elite, everyone and everything in Night City looks like it belongs, and it almost makes you want to install some implants of your own, almost. From the first episode, its very clear what vision the producers...
