"Food and Liquor - Lupe Fiasco" Nothing Too Special

What in the world is this album cover? I'm sorry, I actually thought this album was decent, and overall I have positive thoughts towards him. I mean, I loved his verse on Touch the Sky and The Show Goes On is such a fun track, but other than that I had never really explored much with him. So without further ado, at Sweaty's recommendation, it was decided that I should take a peek at what some consider to be Lupe's finest record ever put forth, and his first.

Food and Liquor – Lupe Fiasco

Intro -  NA/100 It's kind of lengthy for an intro but it's also an intro so I won't care much.

Real (feat Sarah Green) - 45/100 It has a guitar riff, but this song isn’t giving me too much energy or anything. The hook isn’t very strong and so I'm a bit disappointed in this track to be honest.

Just Might be OK (feat. Gemini) – 70/100 good song, hook is cool and I like the energy

Kick, Push – 75/100 I like the Horns and the lyrics of this song

I Gotcha – 60/100 This song is cool I guess but I’m not feeling it that much. I’m pretty lukewarm on rap you could play this in the background while I play and I wouldn’t mind.

The Instrumental – 65/100 not sure how to feel about the vocals but otherwise a decent song.

He Say She Say (Feat. Gemini and Sarah Green) – 80/100 Great story being told and the vocals ain’t too shabby as well.

Sunshine – 75/100 I’m too used to short pop songs but I do enjoy the hook and the sentiment.

Daydreamin’ (Feat. Jill Scott) -  80/100 I would definitely put this song on a playlist its chill but the singing is quite nice Jill Scott really makes this song.

The Cool – 40/100 Kind of boring it just went and by and I didn’t really care for anything.

Hurt Me Soul – 40/100 Not really feeling anything as well that was really redeeming.

Pressure (Feat. Jay-z) -  50/100 I actually like this song and the production but the hook is weak and frankly I didn’t really enjoy the Jay-z feature.

American Terrorist (Feat Matthew Santos) – 40/100 Another boring song in my eyes.

The Emperor’s Soundtrack – 70/100 Pretty good energy nice song.

Kick, Push II – 70/100 I enjoy the story once again, ending off on a decently strong note.

Outro – N/A - Did he really have to make this 12 minutes?

Score: 65/100

If someone put this on in the background I would not get mad at them and I'd actually enjoy a couple of the songs here. I think my main issue is that I'm quite lukewarm on rap, and I don't really mind anything. I mean the length of my comments says it all, many of the tracks on this album are just fine, but nothing too special. While I don't think I'd ever reach for this album if someone asked me to put an album on, that doesn't mean this album isn't bad. Overall, I think the production is pretty good and some of the hooks on this album ain't too shabby as well. While this certainly isn't an album I'd typically listen to, that does not mean that this album and its bright moments don't deserve its flowers.
