"Glee Season 3" Is this a Victory Lap or a Used Sweater?

Image
When I think of Glee , what I think makes a good season are characters you like, actually sharing the screentime characters have, and most importantly, good and iconic covers. And while Glee continues to struggle with making show tune ballads stick without any of the context, and the Sue-Will dynamic continues to shift like a ball of putty the writers like to squish, season three is good. As someone who continues to watch this show almost as a guilty pleasure, I have to admit I do relish watching these all of these characters I've grown so attached to finally reaching the mountaintop that is high school, only to realize that they have no idea what comes after.     Let me say, that honestly this cast of Glee is almost perfect. I don't think there are many additions or subtractions I would do. I mean I didn't really like any of the new characters introduced, but honestly Joe wasn't as bad as I thought he would be. Of course at first I really hated Sugar and Rory, but

"Crying in H Mart" A Lovely Sendoff to a Woman I Never Knew

I'm going to be honest with you, I wasn't actually sure I would have liked Crying in H Mart . I mean of course a part of me knew that my bias for any and all things about the Asian-American experience would have pulled me through it, but this book had lay there on my table for multiple days before I even dared to open it. I mean of course I knew about it, I follow Japanese Breakfast on Instagram, and while a fan of a couple of their songs, my appreciation for them grew significantly as I learned more about their story.     I mean this book was not what I expected. Actually, I'm not sure what I expected, but what I received was a touchng tribute to author Michelle Zauner's mother, a figure worthy enough to deserve the attention of a whole book. I don't know what it was that pulled me through this book in less than two days, that pulled out the passion of binging that I seldom see in myself these days. Perhaps part of me was connecting to Zauners struggle to stay

"Saturday Night Fever" Better Left Forgotten

When this movie was first referenced in Glee , both my sister and I thought it would be perfect to watch. It's a musical, it has disco songs that we liked, and when both Will Schuester and Sue Sylvester described it as  "the soundtrack that defined a generation" we both knew we had to see if the hype was true. I mean they literally described it as a coming-of-age film about finally getting off your ass and working towards your dream. Little did we know, that they said that with perhaps the most rose-tinted glasses humanly possible.     Where do I start? It's the rape, I'm going to be honest with you I think it's important that unlike Glee I rip the bandaid right off. This movie ends on an extremely disturbing and depressing note. After attempting to force himself onto Stephanie Tony sits in the front seat as he does nothing while his friends rape and run a train on Annette. Keep in mind this girl is drugged out of her mind (which they know), Tony has spur

"Glee Season 2" It Gets Better

If I had to list out my main complaints with Glee season one, it would mostly just be about the fact that they spend way too long on all of the romantic drama, whether it's Finn, Rachel, Terri, Mr. Shuester, Emma, or Quinn you can't escape it. Look, it's ok to to have romance, after all the premise is pretty skeletal, it's just a show that's meant to have songs in-between, and what better than love to help fill in? So when it comes to season two of Glee  I can safely report that the show mostly does away with it, but sadly not all of it.     Look, it's not that I hate romance, I mostly just hated Terri, but the truth is I only like drama if it's actually interesting and not beaten to death. Like Santana and Brittany? Yeah even if Santana is bitchy she still is hot/sings well and her slow ascent into lesbian icon is cool. Blaine and Kurt? Blaine actually didn't take for me at first but he's grown on me significantly. Mike and Tina? Well I love Mik

"Glee Season 1" Schrodinger's Glee

If you asked me to describe Glee, I'm not sure what I'd tell you. This show legitimately confused me, but in a good way? It's so good, but also so bad at the same time, and honestly the covers aren't even my favourite part of my show. I don't know who the writer is for the show, or who greenlit all of the episodes, but I thank them for their service to society, because this show is legitimately one of the funniest shows I have watched in quite a long time. No one ever tells you just how absurd this show is, and how through all 22 episodes of the first season, how randomly placed they are. Whether they be Puck's entire character, and his weird mid-season transition into being a Jewish man, to whatever the hell Sue Sylvester talks about, Glee  is beautiful.     No I'm serious too like you could watch a 10 minute compilation of just the most random lines in this show, and you'd question whether or not this show is even about singing. Honestly, I'm
