"Glee Season 1" Schrodinger's Glee

If you asked me to describe Glee, I'm not sure what I'd tell you. This show legitimately confused me, but in a good way? It's so good, but also so bad at the same time, and honestly the covers aren't even my favourite part of my show. I don't know who the writer is for the show, or who greenlit all of the episodes, but I thank them for their service to society, because this show is legitimately one of the funniest shows I have watched in quite a long time. No one ever tells you just how absurd this show is, and how through all 22 episodes of the first season, how randomly placed they are. Whether they be Puck's entire character, and his weird mid-season transition into being a Jewish man, to whatever the hell Sue Sylvester talks about, Glee is beautiful.

No I'm serious too like you could watch a 10 minute compilation of just the most random lines in this show, and you'd question whether or not this show is even about singing. Honestly, I'm just impressed, and it's what turns what should be a pretty formulaic show into must-watch TV for me. I mean that's why it took me so long to get into Glee, I'm not the biggest fan of covers, so the appeal for this show never really took for me. I mean sure I loved musicals and singing, but if this was remotely anything like Pitch Perfect, I was in for a long ride to say the least.

I remember when my sister put this show on, I was working on an assignment and completely groaning when she had put it on. She claimed she had watched the show three times over and I couldn't possibly understand why, but as soon as I heard the ridiculous lines I couldn't resist, I was hooked. The best part, the songs were actually kind of good. I mean my only prior exposure to Glee was watching an awful cover of Creep by Radiohead, and of course the iconic Don't Stop Believing scene, and frankly can you blame me?

Look, does the show have a bad reputation? Yeah, but like the members of the Glee club, I'll wear the badge of fandom with pride. I really hope this show doesn't get much worse, though I did hear that many of my favourite characters from the earlier season did die. Even Rachel grew on me as the season went on. Honestly, by the end only character I really hated was Terri, I don't know what was up with the fake pregnancy storyline but they spent way too long on it.

Final Score: 80/100

Did I rate this season of Glee higher than any season of Batman Beyond, maybe actually. The only season of that show that can compete is the first one anyways, so much wasted potential. To my friends who I claim to say that I love Glee for how stupid it is, I still do believe that, but at this point, I'm okay to admit that I actually enjoy it for the singing too. Gosh darn it, I don't know how much they paid in royalties, frankly I'm afraid to ask, but I'd be lying if it isn't fun to watch some of my favourite characters burst into song about random problems they are having in their life.
