"How I Met Your Mother Season 6" Are We Getting There?
I still love this show, I do. But it's hard to watch this and not groan a little saying "oh brother," especially to Zoey, the new character added to this season, which I have no appetite for watching appear on my screen. That being said, I am surprised that six season later and I'm not too worried about this show getting stale. It's quality has stayed surprisingly consistent, and I have never quite found myself in any sort of malaise where I feel like I'm just trying to get to the end. I mean I am but it's because I enjoy this show too much. So let's talk about it.
This new season had a couple new additions to the mix, first of all, Ted's teaching profession is basically put on the back burner as they once again pick up on his dream of designing a building for the New York skyline. I didn't mind this part to be honest, they didn't really do too much with his whole teaching thing. But what I did mind was Zoey. Do I hate the lovers to enemies trope? No, I don't really do, but what I do frustrate is how incompatible these two were and how they ever even managed to stay. Her character is just kind of unrealistic and they never really get into it.
First of all, her character is a gold digger, she's married to this super rich dude as a captain, which would surely make all of her followers be annoyed with her, or at the very least make things more difficult. Except, by the time the big reveal happens, everyone just kind of accepts it? Like they never explicitly say she's only with him for the money, in fact nothing about their relationship is really revealed, and everyone just goes along that she just happens to be married to a dude with a bunch of money. Secondly, after they break up, she immediately jumps to Ted, which is fine enough, but she also has her own place? And also remains unemployed the entire time? Simply put, there's just not enough to redeem her, let alone for it to makes sense to why Ted is even with her. She puts up that story about how her family used to live there, but also liker too little too late by then? She's basically already become a sellout, and she can't even stand to be in that place now.
Then, she goes and exposes Ted using a recording she said she'd delete, which pretty much shows how much she cared for him in the first place. I don't know, the ending of this season just wasn't that believable to me. Perhaps I'm just getting cynical and jaded about all of these women Ted date. Which brings me to Marshall, who started to become a little cynical and jaded himself. Honestly, thank god for this move, it was so weird for him to just become this defeated corporate slave considering everything they said about his character, so thankfully they've started the move on that.
Keeping in line with him, I didn't expect there to be a whole season with them trying for pregnancy, nor for the whole dead dad plotline, but for the most part I thought I enjoyed them, mostly because I think it's good to have these new dynamics to explore so the show doesn't start to feel stale. Which is largely how I felt about them introducing Barney's father as well. Honestly, it was a long time coming, and I'm only surprised that they didn't do more with it. Though frankly, I'm starting to feel like Robin is kind of getting shafted in terms of storylines. What do they want to do with her?
Final Score: 75/100
Is Barney actually getting married? I hope not. Also are they actually introducing the mother now? I kind of hope so. Also yes, I understand I'm going through this show at an alarming rate, but also I don't particularly care? Like I kind of enjoy watching this show. It's basically sidelined any and all desire to start a new video game from me at the moment, that's how obsessed I am with it. Which is also why it's kind of funny I gave this season a lower score. A taste of things to come? We'll see about this.
