"Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - Weathervanes"

Image
If I had told you I had already reviewed two other albums by Jason Isbell would you believe me? Probably not, because it sounds very fake to me as well. Well I have nothing else to say about country music other than the fact that there are about 2.5 songs by Jason Isbell on my liked songs playlist that I actually enjoy, and my friend Erock really loves him, so I hope to raise it to 3.5 by the end of this album. So without further ado, my track-by-track review. Weathervanes - Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit Death Wish - 80/100 I need to stop being pleasantly surprised when I put this mans music on. I don't know why I act like I've never liked country music in my life when I distinctly remember actually being very impressed with this man and his music every time I listen to him. King of Oklahoma - 85/100 I really love the art where his voice starts going and he sings "She used to wake me up with coffee every morning" it really does seal the deal for what is already

"It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 6, 7, 8, 9" How Many More Seasons Are There?

Image
It has been four seasons of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia since I've written a review for the show, and that's for one simple reason, I just kind of forgot. I mean the show's just good, it casually chugs along tackling any and all issues it wants. I mean one of these seasons Mac literally just got fat to prove that he could, and to do a bit. I mean you'd hope that once you reach 10 seasons you'd have your formula and process down pat and streamlined. And I have to say they do. Sure is it the same formula? Yes, but the chemistry between the cast is so good, and it's not like they've ever had these overarching storylines to worry about, so why not go on for as long as they want? I'd argue at this point it's become better anyways, they've given up on any sort of notion that the characters are any bit sane, so why not? So without further ado I guess here are my favourite episodes from each season.     If I had to choose my favourite epi

"Laufey - Bewitched" Simply Enchanting

Image
I pretty distinctly remember what I was doing when I first listened to Laufey. It was sometime during Autumn, in the last few months of the year, and my friends had been pestering me constantly to give her a shot. I'll admit I was skeptical, this album had come out around the same time as The Loveliest Time  by Carly Rae Jepsen, so it wasn't really on my radar, but eventually I relented. I was doing my regular commute to school, and I put on this album, and with the first track, Dreamer , I was instantly transported. I wouldn't go as far to say that this album has made her into one of my favourite artists, but this album genuinely is beautiful, and I love the tone it sets and carries with pretty much throughout the entire album. I remember putting this album on again closer to Christmas time, and I do think this warm, cozy feeling she's able to conjure fits perfectly in that winter/Christmas sweet spot in December that I do so much adore. So without further ado, m

"House Of The Dragon Season 2" Painfully Boring

Image
Anytime someone says a season is a set-up season they are almost always coping. The season of one of their favourite shows just didn't go the way it was supposed to do, and so they're just trying to justify to why they should continue watching. That is legitimately how I felt about this show. I remember how floored I was by how good season 1 of House of the Dragon was. How I had forgotten how much I loved that fantasy itch that Game of Thrones managed to satisfy me. And I still felt it here too, at least at the very beginning of course. Once again the production value manages to blow away anything else on TV (other than the hair of some characters), and it truly is breathtaking to take it all in. But once you wear the armor for a little bit the luster quickly goes away, and once you take a closer look it begins to crumble quite quickly, as it feels like the show just wanted to showcase some of the familiar actors/actresses from last season a bit more before inevitably kill

"It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 4 and 5" The Best Had Yet To Come

Image
I'm going to be honest the only reason it's taking me longer to finish this TV show is because I have to write reviews for the seasons. So here it is.     Season 4 and 5 of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia  is basically the very last remnants of the low quality version of this show. Season 5 gets rid of the 4:3 letterbox aspect ratio, but by season 6 the show doesn't look like it was recorded in the same era as Friends  for some reason. Honestly, unlike other shows where the quality can fluctuate a lot season to season, I'd say this show kind of blends together because I don't really see that much of a significant dropoff? In fact, I'd say I don't have too much new to say, unless I began reviewing each episode one-by-one, which is fine, but also there are 16 seasons to this show so I'd rather not be hyperfocused on that and just focus on my favourite episodes from each season.          If I had to choose my favourite episodes of season 4 it wo

"Chicago" A Musical That Fails At Music

Image
Look, don't get me wrong, I've watched this movie a couple of times, I appreciate just how much of a spectacle is. But ultimately, I think that there's one fatal flaw to this film, and that is as a musical, the songs just aren't that catchy. I think some of the songs are fine, like Roxie , Mr. Cellophane , or Cell Block Tango, but unlike some of my favourite musicals, I would never listen to any of these songs outside of this movie. I suppose part of it is the cabaret style, it's kind of old fashioned and most of them are slow, so I don't think it's doing the songs any sort of favours. But by that same token it could still work, just look at parts of A Fever You Can't Sweat Out by Panic! At The Disco. Sure there's a lot of nostalgia fueling my love for it, but it genuinely does have some good songs in that cabaret sort of style.     I'd give this musical a longer review, but I think it would be forced. Am I being a bit unfair thinking that

"Borderlands 1 GOTY Enhanced" What Have They Done To My Childhood?

Image
LET ME OUT LET ME OUT LET ME OUT LET ME OUT. I originally started to re-playing all of the games in this series because the Borderlands  movie was finally coming out. I had played Borderlands 1/2 before, but without any of the DLC's, so this time I was hopeful that I'd have more to play for since I now own everything these games have to offer. I absolutely regret playing this game, not because I think the base game itself is bad, but this is an awful, and I mean awful remaster. If you do plan on playing this game I just hope you do it early enough in your life so that the humour still might make you laugh, and frankly just stick with the original if you can. I actually really loved this game as a child, and for the most part I still do, it's just that it's aged terribly, and frankly if you save the DLC for the end, like I do, any and all passion you have for the game will be lost. At this point, all I hope for is that Borderlands 2  hasn't aged as poorly as t

"The Lemon Twigs - A Dream Is All We Know" Chasing Heights It Never Reaches

Placeholder about white people, otherwise maybe I'll keep this in depending on how much I dislike this album. My friend CJ who is old and white enough to like the Beatles claims this album is pastiche in all of the worst ways possible. My friend Omaid who is also old and pretends to be white likes this band enough to go see them in person. He also likes KISS so I'm not sure how much weight his opinion holds to me. I will say that Fantano technically gave this album a 9, though it was a fake version of him so I have semi-high hopes for this album. If it's anything like Pretty. Odd. Panic! At The Disco or Take a Vacation by the Young Veins I reckon I'll probably like this record enough to give it a half-decent review. I have been listening to more Fleet Foxes and Florence + The Machine lately though so hopefully it gives this record a fighting chance. So without further ado, my track-by-track review. A Dream Is All We Know - The Lemon Twigs My Golden Years - 83/100 My

"Florence + The Machine - Lungs" Absolutely Enchanting

Image
I remember how I first discovered Florence + The Machine. I was doing a re-watch of all of the Christmas themed episodes from my favourite show of all time, and during the very first one, Comparative Religion, a fight breaks out between the study group and the bullies. During this fight scene, one song, A Kiss with A Fist  plays, and the rest is history. I put on the album, immediately stopped putting it on to listen to/enjoy Dog Days Are Over for a day because it's an amazing song, and then put on the rest of the album while keeping up with the 2022 World Cup. And now, in 2024, I've finally finished going through all of Florence's discography, and suffice to say, nothing has quite enamored me as her debut album, Lungs had. In fact, I'd go so far to say that there's a small part of me that thinks this might be one of my favourite albums of all time. Of course, I've hardly known this album for a year, and I'm a bit wary putting something so new so high, b

"Fallout Season 1" Finding That Right Itch

Image
I'm a bit conflicted on how to feel about this show. On one hand, I think it is an incredibly effective piece of advertising for the entire Fallout series. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm currently playing through all of the Borderlands  series, I'd go right now to install a Fallout 4  modpack to reexperience the wasteland. Because goddamnit, this game does such a good job of recreating the vibe and aesthetic of Fallout 4. Sure it isn't the ungodly green of Fallout 3 , or the Mojave of Fallout: New Vegas , but it's still darn good, and a part of me now wants to become a vault hunter once more myself. But, then I also have to take a step back and remind myself that, there's a reason it took me so long to finish this show. It certainly wasn't one that I binged, and after watching the first episode months ago, the only reason I finally got around to finishing it was because my friends had told me they had watched it. Even still though, I am
