"It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 4 and 5" The Best Had Yet To Come

I'm going to be honest the only reason it's taking me longer to finish this TV show is because I have to write reviews for the seasons. So here it is.

Season 4 and 5 of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is basically the very last remnants of the low quality version of this show. Season 5 gets rid of the 4:3 letterbox aspect ratio, but by season 6 the show doesn't look like it was recorded in the same era as Friends for some reason. Honestly, unlike other shows where the quality can fluctuate a lot season to season, I'd say this show kind of blends together because I don't really see that much of a significant dropoff? In fact, I'd say I don't have too much new to say, unless I began reviewing each episode one-by-one, which is fine, but also there are 16 seasons to this show so I'd rather not be hyperfocused on that and just focus on my favourite episodes from each season.

If I had to choose my favourite episodes of season 4 it would probably be Who Pooped The Bed? just because of how ridiculous it is that everyone actually has an odd motive to have pooped in the bed, and the stop motion rolling poop. Also, The Gang Gets Extreme: Home Makeover Edition just because of how bad Dee's Spanish is. In my opinion though, season 5 is most definitely the superior season in terms of episodes I'm in love with. Of course, there is the iconic The Gang Wrestles for the Troops, I love the trash man, and it was so worth getting through 5 season of the show to finally see Danny Devito throw that trash can at Cricket as he dressed up as a fake terrorist. Of course there's also The Great Recession, Paddy's Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens, Mac and Dennis Break Up and The D.E.N.N.I.S. System. No disrespect to season 4 but I think they really hit a stride in season 5 with just consistent quality, memorable episodes that never failed to make me laugh. Of course, there'll always be episodes where I feel like they don't stick the landing, but that's bound to be any show, especially one that takes as many shots as this one, comedy simply won't ever please everyone everytime.

Final Score: 80/100

I think season 5 might be the best season of this show I've seen so far, and it's not just because of the trash man. I mean by this point they've all given up on any pretenses of being normal people. In fact, they hardly even spend time in the bar, which is fine, but it'd also be cool to see them go back to doing more scenes in the bar like in earlier episodes. I mean sometimes you do have to ask where the hell all of them get their money, and while it's funny to see them constantly lose them over get rich quick schemes, they do so much damage they surely have to pay it all off somehow.
