"Jeff Rosenstock - HELLMODE" The Return of the King

Image
Where do I even start to begin writing this review? I mean I'll tell you outright that this review is going to be incredibly biased, and I'll probably enjoy every single song here, because the truth is, in my ripe age of 20, Jeff Rosenstock is probably my favourite artist at the moment. Look, I'll wax and wane over who I listen to the most, and it usually depends just depends on my mood, but the one constant in my music taste throughout my post-high school life has been Jeff Rosenstock. I mean can you blame me? WORRY. is one of my favourite albums of all time, and for good reason, not only is it a pop-punk album, one of my favourite genres, but it just all fits so well, and makes me feel seen, and sometimes that's enough. Even if I don't hold the rest of his discography in such high regard, Jeff Rosenstock has always been such a consistent artist to me, I love every single project he's released, even SKA DREAM , and I even adore his side project Antarctigo

"Middle-Earth: Shadow of War" My Patience is Running Thin

Image
I want to love this game, I really do, but by god is it so repetitive. And for what? So that you can go capture another fort, for some more online features that have deteriorated so rapidly seven years later? Look, I understand why people think the nemesis system is cool, but it really isn't that good, and when it's the only thing carrying your game, a game that mind you, is painfully repetitive, you start to ask yourself, am I actually enjoying this? Or am I just telling myself that I'm enjoying this game. That's how I feel about Middle-Earth: Shadow of War , because while I tell myself that it's good, by that same token it's pretty much the last game but way longer, which makes the issues I had much, much worse.     How do I put it? There's pretty much little to no story, and you don't really spend much of the time on the story. While normally, this means that the game is doing a good job of encouraging players to just explore the world an it'

"Mac Miller - GO:OD AM" So, So, So, Bloated

Image
Look, I'm not going to say that I'm Mac Millers biggest fan, nor that I really enjoyed much of his work, even when he was alive, but what I do know is that he seems solid enough, and that he dated Ariana Grande. I mean he wasn't exactly the most interesting rapper to me when he was alive, I didn't really like his voice, and his collabs with Ariana Grande were fine, but he didn't really interest me. I mean does anything really interest me unless it's some strain of rock? No, but people really seemed to enjoy him, but just not me. Even still, my interest in him has indeed piqued after his death, and he seems to have the stamp of  approval from both my brother (who's music opinion I kind of care about) and my friend bleed (who's music opinion I absolutely do not care about). So without further ado, my track-by-track review of GO:OD AM by Mac Miller. GO:OD - AM - Mac Miller Doors - N/A Pretty solid intro I suppose. I still think his voice sounds a litt

"Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - The Nashville Sound" Better Than You'd Think

Image
Shoutout white folks or something I guess. Look, I've listened to exactly one Jason Isbell album, and then never again, but to be honest, it was pretty good while it lasted, it wasn't offensively country, and I actually quite enjoyed the storytelling. While I still would not say that country music is something I would willingly listen to, the reviews of this album seem to be good, and from what little country music discourse I've seen online, Jason Isbell doesn't seem to be the hilariously corny/racist kind of country singer, though I'll reserve my judgements until after the track mysteriously titled White Man's World . Anyways, enough rambling, because I'm mildly interested to see what The Nashville Sound  has in store for me, and to see if country music might grow on me a little bit more. "Ghais Guevara - There Will be No Super Slave" Why Would You Want My Opinion On This?

Image
While normally, with most of my album reviews I get to meaninglessly spill about whatever potential connection I have to the artist, but this time I really have no idea who Ghaist Guevara is nor what this album is about. All I was told is that it was "political hip-hop" and that it seems to have good reviews with the pretentious music people on sites such as AOTY and RYM. Otherwise all I know is that my friend Sweaty recommended this song, and while this review technically is a bit later than it should be, part of it is just that I don't have much interest reviewing this album because I legitimately have no idea what it has in store for me. So without further ado, a track-by-track review of There Will be No Super Slave  by Ghais Guevara. There Will Be No Super Slave - Ghais Guevara Intro - I'm not really going to put a review on an intro, especially one that punches you in the face as immediately as this one with its messaging. I mean how much can I say on multi

"The Bear Season 2" I Need More Now

Image
I got it before, but now I truly, I desperately want more of The Bear  as soon as possible. While it will be super confusing that Carmy became ripped as hell, at the same time I really don't care because I need to see what's happening for my favourite group of terrible kitchen people. Frankly, I was a little scared the show was going off the rails, after all I saw less of people like Ebra, who just sort of mysteriously disappears, and less of people yelling corner at each other I was afraid the heart of the kitchen would be swept away in favour of more fine dining. After watching though, I am safe to report that the kitchen is still well and intact, and while my fears were not unfounded, what I found in stead of the small confined quarters of the first season were well written, just as captivating, single character focused episodes that really let each actor shine.     My personal favourite episode has to be Forks , because to be honest, my favourite character in this sho

"The Bear Season 1" Surprise Me With More

Image
I am in love with The Bear . Not only does it involve great shots of them cooking food, and as a foodie I do indeed love watching people cook, but the show is genuinely great. As my brain becomes more and more ADHD-addled and I suffer from finding it much more difficult to finish a show, The Bear breaks the mold. Clocking in at about 30 minutes per episode for a total of 8 episodes in the season, I think the best way to describe the show is that I was captivated for every single minute of it, even if in reality very little happened during the 8 episodes of the show.     Let me explain, so The Bear follows a chef, Carmy, who was at the top of the world, and decides to step down from his podium to take over the family restaurant after his older brother killed himself. Taking this as sort of a challenge to himself to try and tackle his family issues, the entire season revolves around Carmy slowly trying to figure out what the hell happened to his brother, while him and his rag-tag te

"Atlanta Season 4" They Finally Did It

Image
What have I been saying this entire time about the TV show Atlanta ? Some mixture of "I really love the surreal one-off episodes but what I really feel like the show is missing is more of a focus on the main characters. And, Glover and company have practically met all of my expectations, because other than one episode that focuses on how A Goofy Movie  is actually a truly black piece of media, it focuses on the main characters. I mean it's not like they're doing much, by this season everything has been established, it's just trying to wrap everything up, relatively fine.     Look, if you remember the Piano episode involving Darius from a previous season, the entire season is practically just that, and it kind of works. From Alfred finally finding that peace and quiet that has never chosen to knock on his door on his farm, to Van figuring out how she wants to raise Lottie, this show is full of these one character focus episodes. I mean you don't really see the

"Mercurial World - Magdalena Bay" Best Pop Album of the Last 5 Years?

Image
While I do exaggerate about everything, I must admit, Mercurial World  by Magdalena might be peak music. It quite literally almost never misses, and there are so many hits it's almost like a new song connects with your brain each week. As an avid listener of pop music, and a big fan of synth pop, I had high expectations for this album, and it practically hit every single criterion I threw at it. Uber catchy and replayable? I'm literally going to see the in concert soon it's that good. An actual cohesive album? It most definitely does not sound like a bunch of songs just slapped together on a tracklist. Great variety? you have it too. When I say this album might be one of the best pop albums I've listened to, I'm not exaggerating, it's even better than Future Nostalgia  which is one of my personal favourite pop projects of the past couple years. So without further ado, my track-by-track review of Mercurial World  by Magdalena Bay. Mercurial World - Magda
