"The Umbrella Academy Season 3" Like a Bag of Marbles

Image
I'm going to admit I've been a fan of this series for quite some time. As someone who still follows what My Chemical Romance does I read the comics hoping to get some more content of Gerard Way, since I was too young to truly appreciate the band when it was still around. Therefore, as one might assume, I was incredibly hyped to see this comic book series be translated to television, and distinctly remember the announcement and telling my friend to go watch it.     Overall, I enjoyed this season for the smorgasbord it was, while some parts I felt were subpar and perhaps not for me, I enjoyed the mess of variety it was, and thought overall it did a good job of making sure it didn't stumble along to the finish line. For a show this ambitious, and on Netflix nonetheless(although personally it did get shafted in terms of promotion) I feel as if its only fair to rate each storyline on its own, as it really is a lot to take in, and some have claimed it suffers from Game of T

"Obi-Wan Kenobi" The Best and Worst of New Star Wars

Image
I'm going to be honest, this show was absolutely never going to ever reach the expectations I had for it. Ever since I first watched the prequels I have been absolutely in love with Obi-Wan Kenobi, there was just something so comforting about this bearded fellow who dryly quipped sarcastic lines. Therefore I came into this show hoping to be blown away, and I'd say I was adequately satisfied, as its about what I've come to expect from the new era of Star Wars shows.     I absolutely adored the first episode of the show, believing it to be great setup for what was to come, setting the tone for a darker show involving a disillusioned Obi-Wan, ruthless inquisitors and an overall theme of Obi-Wan learning to once again believe in the good of people and the force. Sadly, by the end of the show I felt the rest of the series seemed to lack the same tone that the first episode had established, though the product was still overall good.     Take for example Reva, otherwise known

"Teen Titans Season 4" Bigger, Better, Stronger

Image
I'm going to be honest, I was a little scared that this season was going to be overhyped. After a fantastic season two, and an underwhelming season three which saw the show take a downturn in terms of episode quality, my hopes for this season were not too high. Of course I understood that fans apparently loved this season of Teen Titans But I feared that this season would be entirely carried by the overarching plot, with mediocre episodes in between. Luckily, I was pleasantly proven wrong, and I am proud to report that this may also be my favourite season of Teen Titans, rivalled only by the fantastic season two.     Gone are filler episodes with the exact same premise, and in are the fresh ideas that made season two so much more captivating than season one. Rather than trying to give everyone the focus of the episode and constantly re-hashing old villains from previous seasons, this season attempts to make sure that each episode is dedicated to one Titan so that they can get

"Teen Titans Season 3" Falling Short of Expectations

Image
I absolutely adored the second season of Teen Titans , believing that it finally fulfilled the hype I heard so much about when it came to this TV show, however I'm sorry to report that season 3 does not manage to deliver in the same manner. I'm not too sure what it was, Titans East was a fantastic concept and something I actually really looked forward to, however I just felt like the focus was not there this season.     One aspect I really enjoyed about the second season was how the episode concepts were just much more interesting. From Wacky alien dogs to a desolate future for the Titans, it was much more captivating and managed to maintain my interest much more, despite the overarching story being less present. On the other hand, season 3 feels much weaker, with many of the episodes simply following the same formula of villains who appeared in previous episodes, drawing the titans into their own special dimension, and then causing them to have to figure out how to escap

"BioShock Infinite" Soaring to New Heights

Image
I can say without a doubt that this is my favourite game in the BioShock series, despite its flaws and quirks BioShock Infinite  towers above the competition like the city of Columbia. I mean I accidentally figured out a major twist to this game years ago and the ending of this game still managed to shock and flabbergast me. I mean what else can I say but that this game is so close to perfecting the BioShock formula and reached heights that may never be touched by the series again.     Before I start tooting my horn and showering this game with as much praise as possible I think I should get the flaws out of the way, because frankly they're very minor and just baffling to me. Take for example the fact that you cannot save this game, a feature that was present in both BioShock 1  and BioShock 2 . I really don't get why this feature was not present in the first game, it was very convenient and just felt like a one step forward two step backwards feature. While I understand wa

"Teen Titans Season 2" From Twinkling to Shining

I'll preface this by saying that I already sort of had an idea of what was going to happen by the end of this season. After all, I was pretty familiar with the Judas Contract, and its pretty rare choices of having both an (unnecessary) underage relationship and an actual Teen Titan dying. Despite this knowledge, this season still managed to blow me away.     While I didn't actually have any major complaints involving last season, it was certainly lacking this sort of strong narrative or voice that I found so endearing with other animated TV shows such as Young Justice . However, with the second season Teen Titans really turns it up a notch, going from a show that I'd play in the background while multitasking, to a show that demanded my absolute attention because of how compelling it was.     Even from the first couple of episodes, the show introduces concepts that are much more captivating, moving away from stories such as "Cyborg builds a car" to "Star

"Teen Titans Season 1" Proof that Kids Shows can still Rock it

Oftentimes, the source of adoration for TV shows is entirely rooted in nostalgia, with being actually very uneventful and dull without any sort of recollection for what originally happened. However, Teen Titans is not that show, and it remains a bright spot in what is surprisingly a strong animated catalogue of comic book related tv shows and movies from DC.     I'll admit, I never really watched the series when it first came out, except for a few episodes, and therefore wasn't really held back by any of the sort of nostalgia referenced in the first paragraph. In fact, the main reason I started watching this show in the first place was that it constantly gets comparisons to Young Justice, and was so highly acclaimed that DC is still attempting to re-capture that magic to this day, with shows like Teen Titans Go or the live action show Titans .      In fact, at the beginning of the show I expected something very different than what I expected, with a larger focus on H.I.V.

"Young Justice: Phantoms" Great Concepts, Messy Execution

Image
Source: comicbookrevolution.com     I'll start off this review addressing the title, because as a die-hard fan of this series, I understand how passionate fans can get about this show, and for good reason, since us fans have to constantly battle for this show to continue. I really did enjoy this show, I liked the new format compared to season 3, and felt that perhaps with longer episodes or a tighter focus, this season could have been fantastic, perhaps even surpassing the first 2 seasons(which are beloved by fans). Its just, the flaws are so glaring, and I don't know if the showrunners can fix them, or want to fix them.     What I mean is that oftentimes the scope of this show is so large and grand that it forgets that each episode is only 24 minutes. While us fans do love to argue about the budget of this show and the general neglect Warner Bro's tends to give it, I do really feel as if the show should have been much longer, or at the very least expanded, so that it did

"The Handmaid's Tale": Complicity or Helplessness?

Image
I think its important to preface this by saying that I'm not a female, so while I may try to sound sympathetic in this review the reality is I am reading this novel from a privileged position. I have no personal experience involving hardships faced by the protagonist or women worldwide and even to this day I still struggle and attempt to be conscious of my own intersectionality compared to others.     With that said, I really did enjoy this book. If I had to describe this book, it would be a slow burn, but also like a slice of life story. While you won't get any grandiose battle for freedom, nor any epic adventure of escape, this novel is still a fantastic read. Written by acclaimed author Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale centers around a women, who some call June, who has been unwittingly forced into servitude under the new power known as Gilead.      Throughout this tale, readers follow the life of June as she simply attempts to live her best life under this regim

"Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" A Masterclass in Ruining a Franchise

Image
As someone who absolutely adores the Harry Potter  series, I really wanted this series to go well, after all who wants their favourite series to slowly fade away for eternity? I never personally experienced any of the books or the movies in person, and so this was my chance to show my fandom and really geek over it. Although, realistically, I should have known this movie would be a mess considering Rowling's track record.     Now, I apologize in advance, because this review of the movie will certainly not focus only on the movie, but rather be more of a chronicle of how J.K. Rowling has managed to absolutely decimate any sort of future that the Harry Potter Franchise might have.     First off, there's Rowling's odd obsession with being woke, but also not? Like take for example, her retroactive alterations to both Dumbledore and Hermione. In her defense, Dumbledore being gay is quite in the realm of possibility, considering the fact that there were fan theories about the
