"How I Met Your Mother Season 2" The Train Keeps Rolling.

Look, I get it. I'm so in right now. I love How I Met Your Mother now. I don't know if I'd call it one of my favourite shows of all time. But it's so good I just love all of the characters. I think this season built off of the last one, and might have been better to be honest. Really, the only complaint that one might have is they play around way too much with this whole relationship stuff. I don't think my review of this season will be long, just that I need to make sure I appreciate how well done it is while it lasts.

I wouldn't call this season Lily and Marshall centric, not that I really think it's a bad thing. But it picks up right where season 1 ended, with them broken up, Lily gone for a while and Robin and Ted starting a blossoming relationship. I suppose my main issue with this is, how long did people think this was going to really last. I'm not saying they were forced to return to status quo, but it's hard to see how the show functioned without Lily and Marshall staying together, since they're entire thing was about being the happy married couple, and Ted always calls Robin "Aunt" to his kids, so they were never going to be with each other past season 2. Sure they might get back in later seasons, but I've seen how long this show goes, there was no way they would be able to make it to 9 seasons with two couples in the friend group the entire time.

But it still works. I know it wasn't going to last but the shakeup was interesting for the episodes it did last, and honestly I think I've become too attached to these characters to really let them go. I mean seriously, I don't know if this show magically became super funny, or I just started to laugh at more jokes because I love the characters that much. I mean there were some archs I didn't care about, sure it's fine that Ted's head architect, and Bryan Cranston was decently funny, but if it wasn't for the fact that I liked Bryan Cranston I don't think I'd care at all about his new arc. Seriously, I preferred the Barney-Marshall work stuff last season much more.

Even still, I feel like they really hit their stride this season, even if there was this weird run of episodes in the middle of the season where they just kept on doing flashback episodes. Were they saving money for the wedding, which wasn't particularly that high budget anyways? If I had to choose my favourite episodes, I would probably say a lot of them are Barney related. Meeting his brother in Single Stamina was pretty funny, especially with that whole talk of single vs couples. I also really loved Slap Bet and glad they kept it as a running gag in the show. Also Robin being a teen pop star is pretty funny too. How could I forget Swarley or Showdown? I'm not saying Barney is the best character but they certainly give him some of the funniest parts since he can consistently take and dole out a lot.

Final Score: 81/100

It's just good what can I say? Honestly, the wedding was a bit underwhelming, and they did stretch it out for three episodes, but I've seen worse. I'm more pissed off that they chose to break up Ted and Robin at the very end like that when they did. Surely there must have been a better place to do that right? Either way, yes I did start season 3 before writing this review. That's how much I believe in/love this show.
