"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 2"
To me, Danny Devito was always It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Not because I was actually a big fan of him, but rather because he's so unique, with the way he looks and his general stature, I was half expecting him to steal the show and constantly be doing these feats of physical comedy. But he didn't, and I suppose that's on me, after all everyone in this TV show is supposed to be an asshole, so did I really expect him to be any different? I guess I just have this perception of him as this nice old man from Matilda but honestly at first his appearance in this show was just really jarring to me. He frankly looks younger than you'd think he is, though I suppose that's because of the age of the show, and him being framed as the father to Dee and Dennis took some getting used to for me. In spite of all that, I'd say by the end of this season Devito had grown on me, and frankly him and his hijinks are a welcome addition to help round out this cast.
I mean what do I even say to this show? They somehow continue to surprise me with the range of topics they are willing to touch. Including an episode that is so very clearly a satire of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is oddly still very relevant to this day. Whether it be Dee and Charlie using PED's, drunk priests pissing on holy stains, or Frank organizing Russian Roulette in the basement, this show is just funny. There's no other way to put it, in my review for season 1 of this show I said I was in too much disbelief to really laugh, but I think at this point I just have to laugh at how stupid all of these characters are it's kind of amazing. Whether it be the visual gag of all of the characters having sex with everyone's parent in Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom, or the once popular "addicted to crack" gif from Dennis and Dee Go On Welfare, this show never ceases to amaze with ridiculous the scenarios can get, and I appreciate it.
Final Score: 76/100
I'd write more but frankly it would be disingenuous to unless I saw a serious drop off in quality from episode to episode. The truth is the seasons in this show are quite short, every episode is only twenty minutes and there are 16 of them, so if I'm going to write 16 different reviews for each season of this show I'd rather keep it short and sweet with what I remember. Frankly, I don't know if I'll even do that, because eventually a show becomes so long and they sort of nail down their formula that it sort of blends together unless the quality really fluctuates. I mean I managed to do it for Rick and Morty so I suppose maybe I should try harder for this show. But even still, if I don't feel that strongly about a season then maybe I shouldn't force it.
