"Static Dress - Rouge Carpet Disaster" Better Than I Thought
Am I back to reviewing music? I'm afraid so, though I'm glad that at the very least we're starting with a genre that I actually somewhat care about. I have never heard of Static Dress before so I'm not going to pretend to act like I have much to say in this intro other than the track titles look kind of cringe, and so does the band but frankly most bands in this genre suffer from the same problem so I'll pass over it. And without further ado, my friend CJ has recommended that I listen to the album Rouge Carpet Disaster by Static Dress.
Rouge Carpet Disaster
fleahouse - 80/100 Hmmm, is it bad I kind of like this intro track? It's pretty solid and I'd put it in a playlist but it certainly doesn't wow me like some tracks from Crisis by Alexisonfire or Collide With The Sky by Pierce the Veil. Are cigarettes in movie scenes really so passe now?
sweet. - 78/100 Another solid follow-up, but I do think that this track is weaker than the first one. I think with this album so far these songs are good but I'm really looking for those standout tracks that I as a fan of the genre will want to replay over and over again.
Push rope - 85/100 I think I like the guitar work on this song the best out of all the songs played so far, kind of reminds me of Belmont's first album in a sense? Are the lyrics on all of these tracks a bit edgy? Yeah but that kind of comes with the territory so you just kind of accept it.
Attempt 8 - 50/100 My mortal enemy, slow songs. I'm going to be honest with you I didn't even realize this song was two minutes long. The singing was just kind of muffled and it sounded fine enough that my brain just immediately ignored it to look at a text.
Courtney, just relax - 60/100 The same could be said for this song to be honest. The middle part where he sort of just starts being really quiet loses me, honestly the chorus is the only part of this song that I enjoy
Di-sinTer - 40/100 Are these artists actually called "King Yosef" and "Oliver Appleyard"? Anyways I don't have much to say about this song other than I think I can barely hear the clean vocals on this track and I'm not too crazy about it plus everything else is just really loud/screaming but not in a good way.
such.a.shame - 77/100 Ok I think we're back on track with this album, as I do enjoy this song. On a random side not for a song in the post-hardcore genre is it weird that this song feels oddly kind of chill?
...Maybe!!? - 65/100 A fine enough track that is pretty good but I have to say once again I don't feel completely blown away by any song really that I feel a strong urge to replay it.
Lye solution - 70/100 Wait what is this song singing about. I was just kind of vibing then I here something about crime in headlines and murder in cities?
Unexplainabletitlesleavingyouwonderingwhy (Welcome In) - 80/100 I'd say something about song titles but one of my favourite bands is literally Fall Out Boy so I'm not allowed to. A nice quick hitting track though I must admit.
Marisol - 65/100 Am I just really picky when it comes to my slow tracks? Probably. I just think a lot of them are really samey/boring so I feel like they have to work harder to justify me listening to them. I also just typically prefer slow songs from pop artists I feel like artists from that genre typically are better with having more variety in their slow songs which helps.
cubicle dialogue - 85/100 The album ends on a pretty strong note. Is this song a bit poppier than the other tracks? Yeah but I suppose that says more about how I view this album as a whole rather than as an indictment on the band.
Final Score: 70/100
Considering the size of this band and the fact that I've never heard of them before this album is impressive. I don't know if I'd say it's blown me out of the water, but if someone handed me another album of theirs to me and told me it was good I would definitely give it a line. If you couldn't tell from my ratings I did give ae lot of the poppier songs higher ratings, but to at the very least defend this choice I felt ae lot of the "harsher" parts of tracks on this album sounded kind of samey or like they were just trying to be as loud as possible. While this is my rating after a first listen I do feel like the scores for some of the individual tracks could definitely be boosted if I listened to them more. I don't know if my overall rating would improve that much, but it wouldn't make this album seem so inconsistent based off of my ratings. I just feel like some of the songs kind of lose listeners because they get a bit boring. But otherwise, good job Static Dress.
