"Justice League Unlimited Season 2" Anti-Climactic
I feel like if you posted my Justice League Unlimited Season 1 review, and pasted it here, almost all of it would apply for season two, except for one small thing. Look, everyone knows I love the slow serialization of a TV series. Ala Gravity Falls, or Avatar: The Last Airbender, where it's mostly just characters hanging out with each other, but the story slowly develops in the background until it completely takes over the show at the end. Don't get me wrong, Justice League Unlimited is like that, and I think that's good, that it was the direction the show should have went, but I have to admit I was more than just a little disappointed to see the culmination of everything.
I mean Braniac has been hiding inside of Lex Luthor all of that time, and they merge to make Braniac Luthor, who is so unstoppable it takes the Flash randomly going supersonic to beat him, and it looks like he's about to die but they just pull him out, and to make sure he isn't too overpowered he says "I better not go that fast again". I don't know, if that's not disappointing I don't know what is. I mean this entire season it's been building up to the Justice League going toe to toe with the government, but they just kind of make up once they realize Luthor's been playing them.
Look, I think there were actually some valid points made about relying on the altruism of masked vigilantes with little oversight, but at the same time it all came to a head in the worst way possible. Galatea just comes back to die relatively easily. Same thing with the Multimen, and then Amanda Waller just gives up and accepts the Justice League because she was being stupid about Lex Luthor? Is it wrong to have expected something better?
I mean I have been doing a lot of complaining, but that's only because I really did like this season. It was cool to see them tackle some of these questions, though once again I would have liked more Flash and Martian Manhunter, but I'll take what I can get. I'm disappointed in this season, but that doesn't mean that it was bad, just that it could have been better. I mean they spent the last couple of episodes of this season focusing on this big overarching story, just to have it be some big and easy cop out.
Final Score: 70/100
Let's hope the next season is better. While it was cool to see that episode where Batman meets Ace, at the same time it was literally a random scene/flashback in the final episode of the season, which is actually a Batman Beyond episode for some reason? I don't know it's basically the same format so you don't have to change much but there's a lot of baffling decisions made with this show that just makes you wonder what happened near the end. Budget constraints anyone?
