"Batman Beyond Season 1" The People Need More

Asian lead? Check. Futuristic CGI atmosphere? Check. One of the coolest Batman designs? Of course. So watching this, I do have to ask, why haven't I watched this show sooner? How have they not remade this show? I understand ratings and all but I feel like Batman Beyond and Spiderman: 2099 are some of the perfect shows to showcase some more diversity in lineups, while also appeasing comic book fans with cool designs. Apparently it was because of ratings, but honestly this is the kind of show that I feel like showrunners should be gunning for. It's in the future so you can do whatever with the Batman lore, you could probably just say it's an alternate dimension, and it's largely untapped which means you aren't bound by the constraints of comic book canon.

All this to say is that the show is really good. As someone who is slowly going through all of the animated DC TV shows of the 2000's, I really like this show. I mean sure a part of me does want to know what happened to the rest of the Justice League that I had grown to love, but at the same time it is fun to learn more about Terry McGuiness and the Neo-Gotham that has sprouted up. Kevin Conroy easily slides right into the role of an elderly Bruce Wayne and the question everyone has on their mind is, what exactly will be the legacy of the Batman?

Honestly the episodes are quite simple, but they're still fun to watch, and I think part of it is the futuristic setting. It really gives them a lot of freedom to just turn anyone into a supervillain, because these freak accidents are so much more common. I think a part of me wants to see more Terry, like him with Dana, because it feels like viewers know so little about him as a person, but I'm sure his relationship with Bruce will be expanded on in later episodes.

Honestly, my only complain is that it's not the greatest. Other than Inque I wouldn't say any of the villains are iconic, and frankly at times for how cool the setting can seem it looks a bit plain, though I attribute it more to the 90's animation style than anything. What I can say about this show is that it's making me excited to read and watch more Batman. Now I want to go read the Batman Beyond comics, I want to know more about Terry McGuiness, don't you?

Final Score: 75/100

DC really needs to reboot this, I could see it being a great success if they remade this show into a TV show in their new animation style, or maybe live action, it just depends on the actor I think. I could  totally see people fawning over it, and you really wouldn't have to worry about all this multiverse or live action universe stuff executives seem to love about superheroes lately.
