"Rick and Morty Season 3" Some of It's Best Material

Let's get this straight, pretty much the only thing I disliked in this season was Jerry, and by a pretty good margin too. I have long maligned about how abhorrent I found the entire debacle the Jerry-Beth divorce was. I mean he's pathetic, but eventually you reach such pathetic levels that it becomes almost unbearable, and no one, not even their most ardent supporters, want to see them try and climb out of the whole again. You need little victories, and Jerry's divorce was just an opportunity for people to laugh at him at almost any instance, and it was hardly focused on either, so once they did end up getting back together, it didn't feel like much changed.

Otherwise though, this season is fantastic. I mean come on, I know people hate Pickle Rick, and for good reason too I think the people who like to yell Pickle Rick or think it's the funniest thing are annoying as well, but I do have to admit I thought the action sequences in that episode were fantastic and inventive. I mean what can you even say about The Rickshank Rickdemption, I remember when that episode first aired, the hype was palpable, people were surprised they actually went through with the airing on April Fools, and it was pretty much everything a fan ever wanted.

I mean, it's hard to talk about this season without also recognizing that it is around this season that the show's popularity blew up, and thus, the cringe Rick and Morty fanbase began. I mean remember the whole Szechuan sauce debacle? I remember wanting to go try them out for myself, but I heard so many reports of Rick and Morty fans trashing McDonald's just for the sauce, and I was too embarrassed to even potentially be seen as one of those troublemakers. Even still though, it's hard to deny this show's brilliance.

I still wholeheartedly believe that The Ricklantis Mixup was one of the best episodes the show's ever had. It technically doesn't even contain anyone from the main cast, but being duped into one giant episode exploring one of the most interesting concepts of the show was so satisfying, and to this day the episode still stands. All it's doing is exploring the lives of those on the Citadel, and making both Rick and Morty feel more mortal, and it works so well. Not to mention The ABC's of Beth, it was a long time in the making but that's the episode where Beth's potential starts to show.

Final Score: 85/100

Is it peak Rick and Morty? Has the show even achieved that yet? I wouldn't know, but what I do know is that the show is fantastic, and as a long-time fan of it this season has some of my favourites, and interestingly enough both of them are lore-centric, I wonder what that could possible mean about what I think about that show? I mean of course it needs new idea's, otherwise it'll get old, but sometimes it just feels like it's going through the same old formula.
