"Rick and Morty Season 2" Slowly Heating Up

Once again re-watching Rick and Morty has made me feel old again. I distinctly remember the beginning and the ending of both of these seasons. I'm a bit embarrassed to say it's how I discovered Hurt by Johnny Cash, but we can't all be perfect can we? Looking back, I think I'm in love with this season, I mean I'm not the craziest fan about Interdimensional Cable 2 or Big Trouble in Little Sanchez, but only two dud episodes in what is a fantastic season is pretty great. If I had to describe this season, I'd say it's better than the first one, and it's where the show starts finally coming into it's own.

Look, it doesn't really begin expanding or building on a bunch of lore that fans have come to love from the series, but what it does it really find it's voice. I mean I think they finally realized what they have in Summer, and while there is a lot of Rick and Morty, the show is finally realizing the potential they have in exploring other characters in the Sanchez family. I mean Rick and Morty are cool, but I'm going to be honest I'm a big fan of Summer, I mean who isn't? She's just a desensitized teenager fucking around.

I think by far the weakest part of this season is that, they still feel too scared to go out. How much of this season is them doing some cool callbacks to season 1 for other fans? I mean I liked the first interdimensional cable as a kid, but how many episodes of that do we need? Also like I said I never thought the school episodes were the best. I don't know, I just feel like while the family drama is cool and all, what I like about later seasons is that they just kind of accept each other for who they are, and so there isn't such a big focus on how everyone hates Jerry, eventually it becomes a bit pathetic.

I can't be too hard on this season though, it has some fantastic episodes. I mean Total Rickall? Who doesn't love that episode. So many weird and zany characters which you get introduced to, and an epic killing spree at the very end where the Smith family finally starts to bond with each other. The Wedding Squanchers? Like I've said the most interesting part about this show to me was learning more about Rick. Us as viewers just know so little about him that it's nice to hear people talk about his past. Like if he's like this now, what about his prime?

Final Score: 80/100

There aren't some episodes I'm not too hot about, but that's sort of expected. You can't realistically expect everyone to like everything you make,  no matter how hard you try. I mean a part of me wants to give this show the respect it deserves, but at the same time I feel like maybe I'm just trying to hype up a season I don't think about that much other than a couple of episodes. I mean it's still good, but to be frank all the Rick and Morty seasons have started to meld in my mind, I mean there are like 7 seasons for God's sake, and more to come without an end in sight.
