"Community Season 3" Unstoppable

This to me, is some of the best TV sitcoms have ever come close to producing. I'll admit it, this is truly peak TV for me, and no one can tell me otherwise. I mean it had it all. A cool badass teacher in Professor Kane, may he rest in peace, multi-part episodes where they lean as hard as possible into the concept they were hoping to achieve. Frankly, they even toned down how much of a villain Pierce is in this season, it doesn't have the grating swings its predecessor has, while being bigger and better.

Where do I even begin? Probably my least favourite episode in this season has to be Virtual Systems Analysis or Contemporary Impressionists. I mean they're fine, in other seasons they might be better, but what I think holds them back is that they're trying too hard to stick to the concept they thought about, but it doesn't quite stick the landing. Yes, while it's funny that Abed is in debt because he's hired so many impressionists, at the same time I feel like the moral of the story doesn't quite stick the landing. The idea that he gets off pretty scot free from Troy simply because they're best friends rubs me the wrong way, if there was some bigger moral lesson I'd like it better.

On the other hand I think Virtual Systems Analysis suffers because it's just not that interesting. Look, I like Abed, and the idea of the evil timeline, but I think they leaned too hard to the whole "Evil Abed" thing. Look, I love Abed, he's a great character, but he really should have had some character development. I understand that for people who have autism (has enough time for me to just openly say he's autistic I mean it's very obvious) that it can be hard to conform to a world that speaks a different language from you, but it'd disingenuous to act like they can't change at all, and that everyone is forever stuck trying to please Abed who's secretly a genius.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, he's become a little grating for me this season, and with each passing season I feel like Troy does a lot to placate him with patience and sacrifices. I don't know, if Pierce can learn to be slightly less bigoted, why can't Abed learn to be slightly less selfish? It's not that hard. I mean I love Abed, the show's meta humour wouldn't be able to run without him, but at the same time I sort of wish he did more, and the writers did too, they just didn't know what to do with him as seen with later episodes.

Final Score: 90/100

I literally started this season, then finished it in the span of pretty much one day, that's how good it is, I just couldn't start watching. I think it's so good it makes the fourth season of the show pale in comparison, to the point where a part of me is even afraid to touch it knowing that it really has some dud episodes that make you want to grate your teeth. What can I say, I'm a sucker for this show, and I'd recommend it again and again and again. There's just something about how it can make episodes so entertaining in such small consumable packages.
