"Community Season 2" The Pendulum Swings Farther
Community season 2, is by all accounts better than it's predecessor, it's wackier, larger, and even better than before. Though, I have to admit, a small part of me kind of misses the stability from the first season. It's not that I prefer it, it's just that, the truth is the more freedom you're allowed, the larger your swings are, the more you're bound to miss. That's not to say that this season was full of a bunch of dud seasons that I thought were inconsistent, there's just a part of me that kind of misses when they did actual college stuff, in the show about college.
I suppose in a sense that's what this rewatch has left me, with a sense of realization that I sort of romanticized parts of this show, where all I remember are my favourite parts, and it's a 12 course meal that never stops delivering my favourite foods. I mean can anyone honestly say they really enjoyed Pierce or Chang that much in this season? I suppose part of it is my enjoyment of relatively unambiguous characters, but like there are multiple scenes in this that just make me cringe.
I don't know, they always argue and say that they're all bad people and so that's why they have to stick together because they all deserve each other, but at the same time, really? I mean I feel like it's not that hard to be a bad person, though I suppose the story becomes significantly more boring if the people in it are just not that interesting. What I'm pretty much saying is that a lot of these problems seem pretty avoidable, but at the same time maybe I'm simply expecting too much out of a TV show that clearly does not prioritize realism.
I mean do I even have to say anything though? This show is addictive, and it's hit rate is insanely high, I'm frankly astonished it's been able to have so many episodes that really blow me away. From Epidmiology to the paintball episodes everything this season just kind of clicks. It really is peak TV show and frankly I don't think much could take away from it other than the fact that I hear Harmon and Chevy Chase were both kind of assholes during it.
Final Score: 86/100
Yeah I've been rambling, yeah my personal connection to Jeff probably makes me like him more than I should but who cares. All I have to say is that this show is the kind that you need to watch. It's wacky, zany, but doesn't manage to miss either the landing or the message to make sure that these episodes were worth something. I'm rambling, but it doesn't matter, because this show will shine through with or without me, and that's what makes it so good.
