"Thor: Love and Thunder" Ragnarok to This?

Just a thoroughly unserious movie through and through. This movie legitimately feels like Marvel told Taika Waititi that he had to hit a couple of points: Gorr, other Gods, Lady Thor and then let him do whatever, because this movie really does feel like hitting some points on a board. I mean don't get me wrong, I too at times enjoy fight scenes with classic rock in the background, but it really just felt like on the script any time it was time for a fight, it would simply read "time for cool slow mo thunder shots".

I mean, everyone loves a little bit of mystery with their magic, but despite being 2 hours long, they reall do not explain anything about this, and therefore all of the battles just feel cheap and quick. Thor can give his powers to children now? Ok, but what was the point of getting his army. You can destroy his sword? Ok, but why was it so important to keep Stormbreaker away from him then. Stormbreaker is the key to it all? Ok, but can't other weapons use the Bifrost? Isn't the entire point of Gorr to prove the cruelty of Gods, why is he using children? It simply makes no sense and it is all of these discrepancies and plotholes that cheapen the movie from start to finish.

I mean for goodness sake we don't even get to see Jane Foster become Thor and learn to use the powers, she just kind of has them? It isn't even fully explained how the cancer kills her like in the comics. The tone is severely lacking in this movie, from Zeus with a bad accent, to Gor suddenly changing voices after the sword, every part of this movie feels jarring, you'd be hard pressed to find two scenes in this mediocre movie that really feel connected.

I think that's what makes this film so frustrating, I mean the ideas are clearly there, and they're interesting. The idea of Thor having to concede with the loneliness that comes with being a God, realizing perhaps he's not as indispensable as he once thought, that someone else could do his job, and the fact that the Gods are cruel. However, nothing in this movie is really resolved in a way that makes one happy, it just sort of ends wraps itself up without the necessary conflict or growth that is required to make the concepts satisfying to unravel on screen.

Final Score: 50/100

The movie is fine, the movie is unoffensive, if you turn off your brain you might even enjoy the fight scenes slightly. I mean one paragraph of this review is just me listing all of the plotholes. Overall, I'm disappointed in Taika Waititi, I mean I enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok, but I suppose he could not recapture that same magic. Nothing I've said is anything new, this movie recieved a bad rep, and for good reason, because frankly it's 2 hours with updates to a cinematic universe that could have been achieved in 2 seconds.

PS. I'm a sucker for Mentor/Mentee scenarios and Dad Thor sounds kind of fun to me.
