"Ant-Man and the Wasp" Wait That's It?

No seriously what happened? The way this movie is set up, and how it actually played out, contrast greatly with one another. I mean the premise of the movie is literally, Scott Lang is under house arrest, and is approached by Hank and Hope Pym in order to save Hank's wife, Janet Van Dyne, under suspicion that she might in fact be alive, contrary to what they previously though. Now, this sounds like great setup for a movie right? And it would be, except for one small fact, they can barely show the quantum realm in this movie because they're actually planning on using it for the third movie so enjoy a movie that takes place entirely in the real world with two and a half villains that are all a bit half baked.

First, lets talk villains, because frankly, I'm not sure the producers of this movie knew who it was supposed to be as well. From Sonny Burch and his "mysterious crew" to a "supervillain" literally called Ghost, to random encounters with the feds, it makes you question why couldn't they have consolidated it to have one good, developed villain? Part of it is just that, in the premise, there isn't really a good villain, well other than Kang, who is the villain of the next movie.

I suppose looking back at this movie in retrospect, I kind of feel as if it's useless. Don't get me wrong, I understand that they needed to get to the point where Janet is out of the Quantum realm, but much of the conflict just feels artificial, like they're throwing a bunch of half baked villains at them in order to make sure that it feels like there's some big bad cool confrontation at the end.

Maybe if it was like a short spinoff I'd be a bit more understanding? I mean I enjoyed the movie, so they padded it out well, but all things considered its still padding which means we probably could have done away with most of it. Personally, that whole thing that Hank Pyms adversaries was cool, and ghost seemed to have a backstory, it's just that pretty much nothing is fleshed out in these films, and when I mean nothing is fleshed out, I mean nothing. Seriously, why did viewers need multiple side plots and villains, when the premise is right there, they literally used it for the next movie too, that's the worst part.

Final Score: 50/100

It was a fun watch, I'd put it on for children to watch. In retrospect I can see why they didn't show off the Quantum realm more, but in my eyes it was really obvious that they should have regardless if they ere going to visit it again for the third movie, it would have just made this movie better. I mean they literally visit it for like 2 seconds, the rest is them just fighting and shrinking/growing random cars, villains and buildings outside of the actual Quantum Realm. I suppose I'm being harsh, but to be honest it's important o be harsh considering how much I actually enjoyed the first film, which was quite a lot.
