"Dishonored: Death of the Outsider" So That's It?

What? That's it? Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoyed this game. In fact, I thought it was more interesting than Dishonored 2, but that's entirely because it didn't use the same fucking story as a DLC Like come on Arkane, be for real. This is even worse when you know that the first game was actually kind of cool too. Speaking of DLC, don't get me started on the fact that this game is entirely a Dishonored 2 DLC marketed as it's own game. This meme pretty much sums it all up, which is pretty sad considering how cool the combat system is.

Look, there's nothing wrong with keeping the same combat system if it works, but you have to change something other than the fucking graphics, or it gets so old so quick. Dishonored 2 realized that, they made the game shorter so people wouldn't get burnt out, but then I started Dishonored: Death of the Outsider and realized, I'm already burning out. I mean, they don't even try, it's re-used asset after re-used asset. The first mission is short, the next two missions literally take place in the same map, the fourth map is just a reskin of a previous map, and the last one is also incredibly short.

I mean everything about it just screams cash grab. Like the concept of killing a god is actually really interesting in my mind, but it's not expanded on at all. Like did they even care about what they were doing? Part of what made previous games so unique was the bonecharm/rune system (especially in regards to how rare they are) and the chaos system, both of which are completely ruined.

Frankly, the game is so similar to Dishonored 2 I didn't even realize there was no chaos system until the final level, which I promptly finished by killing everyone because I was so fed up with everything. Like how did we go from 8 bone charms and runes combined for each level to 22 bone charms for no apparent reason. It just cheapens what already feels like a very cheap game, and your patience runs too thin by the end of it. Like they never even tell you when you unlock bone charm crafting, it just sort of happens.

The only good aspect of this game is Billie Lurk, and by that I mean her powers are cool, which I'd hope for a different protagonist so in my eyes it's the bare minimum and does not excuse Arkane for the rest of this game. I mean if you liked the other Dishonored games, you'll probably enjoy them, and if you're binging them you'll probably excuse them a bit more. Sadly, I'm not though, and if you're trying to binge through a series, this series is not it.

Final Score: 60/100

I am retroactively changing any and all of my scores for the Dishonored franchise because these games all being so samey really make you notice what's piss poor about them, and just make you disappointed to play them. Like I want to pretend I enjoyed the game, and I did for a bit, but by the end everything has soured so much.
