"Dishonored 2" I Was Missing Out
Look, I'm not saying I hated Dishonored 1, but the gameplay in Dishonored 2 really made me appreciate the elements of Dishonored 1 more than I could ever imagine. Would I say this is my favourite game? No. I think in term of similar single player games I enjoyed the original Bioshock's story and atmosphere a lot more than this game, but where Dishonored 2 has Bioshock beat is in the gameplay, which I think is some of my favourite stealth gameplay of all time.
When looking at this game and the biggest differences from its predecessor, there's one stark difference that really makes this game so much better than the first, the graphics. There's no nice way to put it, Dishonored 1 looks like absolute shit, the game is such an eyesore and frankly looking back I didn't know how I excused it all. I mean even for a game released in 2012, it looked so bad, and Dishonored 2 is pretty much the visual uplift that it was desperately looking for.
Speaking of major changes, other than the visuals, the game remains pretty much the same. You have the option to play either Corvo or Emily, which is cool I guess, but it just feels much more right to play Emily, so I never really considered it. That's not to say that this game is worse, but it's mostly just more of the same, though luckily, if I had to choose one game between this series, it would most definitely be the sequel.
Look, it might be shorter than its predecessor, but it is absolutely worth it, and unlike the first game you can actually remember some of the maps, and my personal favourite had to be the mansion of Aramis Stilton. I went through that entire house three different times, and I can say with confidence that I had an absolute blast doing so, making sure that every enemy and ally was knocked out while looting every single piece of cash available.
Even still, this reduced length comes at the cost of one thing, and one thing only, the story. Now normally, this is expected, how many sequels do you know that actually have a better story than the first? But trust me when I say the story in this game is pretty bad. Like, it's already bad enough that they're re-using pretty much the entire premise from a DLC that was in the first game, but the fact that they did pretty much nothing but rehash it is kind of insane in my eyes. Like I kid you not the only thing that they changed was the protagonist, and it's pretty much the exact same plot too just different setting and longer game.
Final Score: 65/100
Look, I'm not saying the game is bad, but it just feels like the same game with some quality of life changes, and I guess that's not the worst thing in life? I don't know, I just expected more, and if you've played the first game well then you know what to expect. It's not bad, it's just fine, and in my eyes gameplay can only carry you so far, especially when everything in other department are either lacking, or the same from previous games.
