"Police Story" Was Jackie Chan Always this Bad?
Jackie Chan is an odd figure for me. On one hand I absolutely idolized him as a kid, I thought he was the coolest Asian guy who did all of his stunts and could absolutely go toe to toe with Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee (remember those two? the 2000's were a different era). Anyways, my adoration for him has dropped considerably, because while I do appreciate the representation of Asian people in media, I didn't realize he was kind of an asshole. It made me wonder, did I just watch everything he did with rose tinted glasses, because while I've never watched Police Story, watching it now has not exactly given me the most favourable view of him.
Did he actually direct, write and star in this movie, because its hot garbage. Perhaps I'm not the right audience, but I can't say I enjoyed any part of this film. Now, as a child my parents loved these kind of foreign low budget films, only they'd watch it with Vietnamese dubbing over it, making it all the more corny. What do people see in Police Story, I genuinely want to know, because I really wanted to like this film, I really did, but I can't bring myself to.
Despite being a film that I was promised would be full of action, I was sorely disappointed to learn that the plot mostly just chugs along at a snails pace. I mean the synopsis of the film is: cop has to clear his name after being framed for the murder of another corrupt cop, and has to clear his name from the mafia. Now, that sounds like a pretty standard action film plot, but you'd be sorely disappointed to discover that this all happens in the last 30 minutes.
This entire film is 1 hour and 40 minutes long and despite that the first hour and a half is setup to even just frame Jackie Chans character. There is no action to save this plot on a string, and frankly nothing else is captivating enough to write about. Nothing stood out to me and all I have to say is please do not watch this film it's so painfully mediocre that even the small bits of action it has cannot save this bore of a movie.

Final Score: 25/100
If you do any research into Jackie Chan, you'll quickly learn that he's an asshole, a real shocker to me considering how much I idolized him as a kid. Now, sometimes you can excuse asshole behavior if they're good artists, but this movie has no redeeming qualities it just makes me hate Jackie Chan even more.
