"Twin Fantasy - Car Seat Headrest" I Need More

Lyrics that are unique enough to be memorable, but not nonsensical enough to be overbearing and are singable. Vocals that are polished enough but still retains the awkwardness and flaws that really make you feel Will Toledo's emotions. Lastly, an Indie Rock sound that is absolutely memorable and hits you exactly in the right spot if you are someone who can even relate a little bit to what Will Toledo is singing about. I am talking about Twin Fantasy by Car Seat Headrest.
Now I've known about the existence of this album for quite some time, and I remember music-centric Instagram accounts joking about this being a furry album from a furry band, so I just laughed at the joke and moved on. However, lately Spotify kept on recommending this album to me, taunting me to listen to the furry one, and unsure of whether or not it was a joke or not, I searched it up, to find to my surprise that this album was in fact critically acclaimed?
My interest was piqued and I kept on digging, apparently there were two versions of this album, one recorded in a fur-suit and the other much more polished. I know the "Will Toledo is a gay furry joke", but after consulting a friend who loved the album, I decided to jump right in headfirst and embrace my inner furry. And boy was I treated to a surprise. I played Sober to Death once and I could not stop, listening to it until I turned it off, but turned it on right before I slept. Once it hit me in bed I just started bawling my eyes out for a good hour, for some reason I couldn't stop crying, this song just touched me, moved me in such a way that it wasn't just a tear trickling down my face, it was ugly and it was full of heaving.
And so, without further ado, and being incredibly hyped up by me, I present my track by track review of Twin Fantasy by Car Seat Headrest.

Twin Fantasy - Car Seat Headrest

My Boy - 85/100 A slow track that sets the mood for what's to come. It really doesn't give you much energy at first but that just lets you get familiar with Will's voice and singing style. Eventually it turns into a loud track that gives you a hint of the themes to come.

Beach Life In Death - 98/100 I really wanted to give this song a 100, and in fact I contemplated it. I do think it is a tad bit long though, but it's definitely turned me onto long songs. I mean this song is 13 minutes but it is an amazing roller coaster that is worth every minute with an ending to top it all off.

Stop Smoking (We Love You) -  80/100 A shorter acoustic song that is decent, nothing too crazy about it. Mostly it just serves as setup for the motifs that will be revisited later in this album.

Sober to Death - 100/100 I love this song so much. I even love the poorly done version in the fur-suit. There's just something about the way he sings it, its supposed to be uplifting, hopeful, but something about the somber delivery just gets you. I love singing the chorus to this song, and now instead of making me sad it just makes me want to sing it out in solidarity, for anyone who ever fears that they might be alone forever.

Nervous Young Inhumans - 90/100 I'd rate this song higher, but it's not that catchy. I also had to deduct points because the album version just has Will mumbling for the last two minutes but luckily the single version remedies this issue.

Bodys - 95/100 I was surprised to see this was one of Car Seat Headrest's most popular songs, especially because it almost totals 7 minutes in lengths. Unlike Beach Life in Death it isn't just one giant saga spanning multiple parts but 7 minutes of pure bliss where you want to just jump around put your arms around someone's nice shoulders.

Cute Thing - 100/100 I also adore the hell out of this song. Also one of the first songs that I was introduced to for Car Seat Headrest, I thought it was cool, but it really grew on me. There's just something about the wailing of the guitars and Will Toledo's voice and begging to be a rock god that is simply infectious.

High to Death - 80/100 I do think the album does become weaker at the end, while I do understand that this track is supposed to be trippy it's not my favourite.

Famous Prophets (Stars) - 85/100 This track is quite literally 16 minutes long I don't know if I could sit through all of it without feeling awkward. A beautiful track nonetheless though.

Twin Fantasy (Those Boys) - 80/100 A solid closer to a fantastic album.

Final Score: 93/100

I mean what else can I say? While I do think the quality drops off near the end, it just didn't capture my attention with the catchiness of basically the entire first 7 songs. This is genuinely now one of my favourite albums of all time. It's like when I first listened to WORRY. by Jeff Rosenstock, I didn't know Indie music could be this good. I mean I feel like I've said everything already that needs to be said, simply go out and listen to this album, and it may very well strike you in a chord that you didn't know existed.
