"Ta13OO - Denzel Curry" Cool Concept

    When my friend Shoota recommended Ta13OO by Denzel Curry to me I was unsure of how to feel. Now, don't get me wrong Denzel is a talented artist, and from what I've seen he's critically acclaimed among rap circles consistently putting out quality projects. My issue was, the only rap I listen to is really just Tyler, The Creator and Kanye West, both who sometimes err on the poppier side with heavy use of sampling which I enjoy. No disrespect to Denzel but this album is labeled as Trap Rap, and frankly I'm just not the biggest fan of what trap music I've listened to. So without further ado, here are my track by track reviews.

Ta13OO – Denzel Curry

Taboo – 75/100 Kind of a slow track but I kind of like the chorus and verse. Not sure if I’d ever listen to this on like a playlist but decent intro.

Black Balloons – 70/100 I was actually expecting this album to be a lot more hardcore, especially after the album cover but its been pretty chill so far actually.

Cash Maniac – 60/100 Decent energy from this song but I wish the chorus was catchier I think the hook is kind of weak and I’m not really feeling Denzel’s verses on this song as much.

Sumo – 70/100  A bit more energy than Cash Maniac I kind of dig it to be honest.

Super Saiyan Superman – 65/100 Shoutout Katy Perry I guess I’m not sure if I think the anime reference is cool or goofy there’s not too much going on with the song frankly.

Switch it Up – 75/100 I enjoy the beat on this song and Denzel’s flow.

Mad I got It – 60/100 Did he just say Big Cheese Piling? Frankly I’m not really feeling this song too much its just not giving me the energy I want.

Sirens – 75/100 I do enjoy the chorus on this song, and I thought JID’s feature was not too shabby either.

Clout Cobain – 75/100 I can see why this song is popular the hook is relatively catchy even if I’m not the biggest fan of trap music.

The Blackest Balloon – 40/100 The verses and chorus weren’t giving me what I needed.

Percs – 65/100 I don’t really like the chorus on this song but I’d be lying if the verses don’t go hard.

Vengeance – 70/100 The chorus isn’t the worst and the verses are actually good I like the features on this song.

Black Metal Terrorist – 75/100 This song simply goes hard and is a good closer to an album that I felt was a bit of a mixed bag to be honest.

   While I don't think this album was as bloated as the Lupe Fiasco one, I didn't really have any one standout song I think I'd ever listen to again. That is no disrespect to Denzel as an artist but its clear he's just not targeted towards me. I do enjoy the idea of the album and while I do think some of the songs could be improved on it's a good effort and I appreciate the ambition from him to try and do something like this.

      Look, Danny Devito was the only reason this show had any sort of foothold in my mind. I kept on repeating I'm the trash man through many of my younger years, and frankly, after looking at the absurd number of seasons, I've always been wary of starting this sitcom. "System Of A Down - Toxicity" Stick it Out for the Second Half

      I have in fact tried listening to this album before. I remember Anthony Fantano saying he really loved Toxicity , so I decided to put on Prison Song  at 12 pm, before promptly realizing this is exactly the kind of music I'd rather not listen to going to sleep, and that the song was really on the nose. Other than that I have absolutely no prior experience with System Of A Down other than Chop Suey!  which is a lovely song that Jeff Rosenstock continues to play before every single one of his shows (thankfully). So I suppose I won't pretend to deliberate further because I'm not particularly a big metalhead either, so I doubt any knowledge I might impart would be useful. Toxicity - System Of A Down Prison Song  - 55/100 While the chorus and the song in general goes pretty hard, I have to say just the whole delivery of the verses is really holding this song back. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 2"

      To me, Danny Devito was always It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia . Not because I was actually a big fan of him, but rather because he's so unique, with the way he looks and his general stature, I was half expecting him to steal the show and constantly be doing these feats of physical comedy. But he didn't, and I suppose that's on me, after all everyone in this TV show is supposed to be an asshole, so did I really expect him to be any different? I guess I just have this perception of him as this nice old man from Matilda but honestly at first his appearance in this show was just really jarring to me. He frankly looks younger than you'd think he is, though I suppose that's because of the age of the show, and him being framed as the father to Dee and Dennis took some getting used to for me. In spite of all that, I'd say by the end of this season Devito had grown on me, and frankly him and his hijinks are a welcome addition to help round out this cast.
