"Better Call Saul Season 6" Stop Calling Them Spinoffs
This has been said already but I wish to say it again, calling Better Call Saul a spinoff is a disservice to what the show morphed into. I'm going to be honest with you, I too was skeptical when I was sold on the idea of a spinoff. I mean I understood that it was a spinoff of Breaking Bad, but I couldn't wrap my head around the idea that the spinoff would indeed be just as good as the main show, and so boy were my expectations high. I mean I feel bad for Better Call Saul, to compete with Breaking Bad was going to be inherently impossible, especially when it wouldn't even have the same action of the later Breaking Bad Seasons, though even I have to admit they went pretty damn close.
I wasn't actually the biggest fan of the first Better Call Saul season. I just felt like it was too slow, and lacked the action of Breaking Bad. I mean Breaking Bad was by no means action packed, but it really picked up the pace as later seasons went on, so I was so invested and watched hoping to get to the end of that fantastic show. I do think I did suffer from a bit of fatigue. I mean I had heard Season 5 of Better Call Saul was releasing and I had hoped to jump right in, but by god is it lengthy. While those with better patience may have enjoyed it, I did really feel as if it dragged a bit too long and that it could have sped things up.
However, when it came to Season 6 I watched it with the same bated breath I did for Breaking Bad, except for the second last episode because why did we need Jeffie? I understand that Saul needed to be caught but I was like zoning out could he have just not been caught by someone who noticed him? Other than that I loved the way the show ended. I mean I had already caught so many spoilers from memes about the show, and the hype had grew to such levels that I had to watch.
Even with the spoilers I still enjoyed this season, and despite knowing the fate of multiple characters I really did feel anticipation, hoping that just somehow, one of my favourite characters made it out alive, mostly Lalo. Can I speak on the acting, because the acting is incredible, and it really makes you want to root for the bad guys. I mean I was actively hoping Saul took the seven year deal at the very end but ultimately, he took the whole life sentence to redeem himself and shed the Saul persona.
Final Score: 85/100
Overall, I don't think I can say anything else about this show, because what's been said has already been said. There wasn't anything super notable that stood out to me, the show was just so solidly crafted its hard to find any chinks in the armor. For any fans of Breaking Bad, while Better Call Saul, is not necessary, it is so complimentary that anyone itching for more of Vince Gilligan should give it a shot.
