"Dirty Dancing" Not as Flashy as It Seems

I'm going to be honest, this movie kind of underwhelmed me, while I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, the only real scene that really even piqued my interest was basically bits of the abortion storyline and the final scene. I'm not too sure what I expected going into Dirty Dancing but I'm struggling to see what others saw in it that made it so memorable. I mean perhaps this was just a me thing but I didn't even realize the most iconic song from the movie "I've Had the Time of my Life" was from this movie, and had originally heard it sampled by the Black Eyed Pea's.

Personally, one of the biggest flaws of this movie is that it doesn't have enough of what it advertises, which is a mix of both Dirty Dancing and music, like the dance they perform isn't even as raunchy or as dirty as I thought it'd be. Instead of a mildly corny storyline about dancing the way you want to and learning to express oneself despite the expectations of adults, people are given the same tired old story of good girl bad boy.

Like yes, I didn't come into this movie with high expectations, and planned to watch it while doing other things, but I didn't plan for it to be this unremarkable. In fact, the most surprising thing to me was the fact that a storyline involving abortion was included, especially considering the time period, and its progressive views on that gave me some hope for the boomers of that generation. I mean other than that the movie barely includes any dirty dancing, and overall I was somewhat disappointed.

Final Score: 50/100

Ultimately, when going through old movies to watch, I would personally have to not recommend Dirty Dancing. While the movie isn't offensive or anything, its simply too mediocre or boring to have as anything but a movie to keep on the background and frankly there are better uses of your time.
