"Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 2" Sophomore Slump or Worthy Successor?

This is the one, the season that got me into this series, and Telltale games, in the very first place. I distinctly remember not being able to a)run games on my computer well(other than Minecraft), or b) purchase them(nor where to even buy them). So therefore the next best thing was watching a PewDiePie let's play, after all what's wrong with enjoying the story, even if I'm not allowed to make any of the choices?

What is this game about you may ask? Well, if you've played any Telltale game you should be familiar with the formula, a story game with minimal input and an emphasis on dialogue. This time around you follow Clementine as she lives life without Lee, meeting new groups, reconnecting with old characters, and beginning to have to make decisions all on her own.

Overall, when compared to the previous season, this season still holds a special place in my heart. For overall critiques, I do agree with people who claim that the choices don't really matter in this season, although I still adore the story. I was a bit confused on how Kenny survived, but it was great to see him again as I loved seeing crazy Florida man. One story critique I did have was that they relied on Clementine too much, after all she is only 11 so its a bit annoying to see them basically age her up to give the player more freedom.

In terms of characters, the character of Jane annoyed me to all hell, I really disliked how she basically tried to protect Clementine while also having an asshole personality. To me it felt like she was basically a female Carver, who saw herself in Clementine while also simply wanting to watch out for herself and the strong. I also disliked Bonnie, despite trying to like her as much as possible, because she tried to be a good person but ultimately felt just like she constantly switched back and forth between wanting to do the right thing, then just being plain rude.

I think the game did a good job of making me feel as if I had to make tough decisions, especially involving Sarah. I do think she was on the spectrum, and it made me feel uncomfortable dealing with her, because I tried not to keep the discriminatory mindset of her being a burden, rather simply trying to approach things from a different way. Although, she did get on my nerves, even as I was patient, and I began to wonder if the world was simply moving too fast for her, or if I could actually do anything.

Final Score: 75/100

Overall, while your choices don't feel as impactful compared to season 1, its story was still strong enough for me to say that this game isn't one to skip over.
